Where did the design of the 2nd gen charger come from?

Looking at other musclecars can be found similarity like the butterfly back windows from the 1967 gto or the front grill kinda looks like some of them!It wasn't so original after all,was it then?I'm NOT trying to bash the design just would like to know what you guys think of it!Was it like taking a few bits off of other car designs and making it better? It looks like, because all the features been done before our loved 2nd gen chargers!Sure they made a great job designing these cars and I'm happy for it!

ps:If it's been discussed(probably) before just ignore me  :slap:

That's true Pontiac's had the recessed rear window first. The inspiration for fins came from jets in the 50's and carried into the 60's with rockets and space craft's shape along with visual cues from high end race cars. Scoops, blisters, bulging fenders and the stripes used to identify a particular car's team on the racetrack added to the mix.   :yesnod:

I'm sure the stylists knew (know) each other as a kind of fraternity just as any other artist group.  A lot of them likely went to the same schools so you have to think that a lot of looking over one anothers shoulders combined with a little corporate spying goes a long way to similarity in styling.

3rd Gen chargers look like the 68 GTO, as well.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Especially if they have access to the internet.

All cars from almost every era have similar stying. None of the other cars with the tunnelled rear window look quite as good as a 2nd generation Charger though.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

The 1966-7 GTO's also had the Coke bottle profile. The side windows look like a 1966 Impala.

I agree that the 67 roofing of the GTO is like the 2nd gen Charger but that's as far as it goes. The rear end of a 69 GTO doesn't come close to the style of a 69 Charger by any means. Every panel on the 2nd gen is just a marvel of style. The 69 Charer grill is similar to a 69 GTO grille, but the 68 grille looks nothing like a 68 GTO so I see no copying there. I had my car out all this weekend and 40 years later it is still an amazing rolling piece of art work, and that's not just my thoughts. My 9 year old neighbor came over and told me how gorgeous and cool the car looks to him and he has no history with old muscle cars. The ultimate compliment.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

I can't agree more with that the second gen charger design is the best the most beautiful one! :drool5:

Looking at my own pictures from driving my car home from utah, I think the second gen chargers look alot like a stretched camaro, or the camaro looks like a squished second gen.....
