AMD 1/4 - dutchman panel issue AND rear valance issue

Fells, anyone had issues where the rear dutchman panel makes the transission to the inside of the sail panel ???

Both pieces are AMD yet I can't seam to get the curved area right to let the trim lay down in like it should.
Otherwise the quarter measures out like it's sure in the right spot.

This is on the drivers side quarter. ( doing one side at a time to retain some kind of factory dimensions to measure off of )

pass side quarter is not on yet so I don't know if that is/or will be a problem as well
I am think to make a thin cut in it and rear shape the sail panel area to make a nice transission for the moulding with mimimul gaps

2nd problem isi the angle of the rear valance to lower rear quarter alignment is WAY off. This is shown with it in the place it needs to be to align with the rear valance itself. And the only way I can think of to fix it is to make a pie slice in it and weld in a filler to get it align with the lower quarter

All this is with the drivers quarter in place measuring off the pass side quarter , decklid is on, door gap is about perfect

Every car I have seen has had the valance issue that you have ad they all do the pie slice and fill to fix it. As for the other issue -  :popcrn:

It all needs a bunch of work, my full quarters are the same way as well as the valance, luckily since I am doing a Daytona clone I don't have to worry about that alignment on the dutchman panel as much as if I had not done the conversion.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

For assembling a car out of separate repro parts that never originally lived together on that car, the mismatch at the rear window area doesn't look bad.

The valance mismatch is normal for this hobby but I don't know why.  It's a Law of the Charger Universe that rear valance corners will never fit right.

Cooperman

That's not a right hand trim in the left corner is it?  :shruggy:

I had to put my car back together having bought it in pieces, and I remember coming to the conclusion that one side doesn't fit the other.

If I'm wrong, apologies to you GTX!  :2thumbs:

My quarters look about the same. The passenger side (when you get to it) will be worse at the rear window opening.

The valance corner issue is simple, just cut the quarter panel and make it fit to the corner. Then fill in the gap. You will extend the bottom of the quarter almost 1/2"

I haven't figured out how I am going to fix the rear window corners yet.

Hmm... seeing this makes me want to go and check on my dutchman panel & trim fitment.  As for the valances, I thoguht about just filling in the gaps with metal-to-metal and making it a smooth transition between my quarters and rear valances.

Patronus

Looks like you got it closer than most by the rear window.. :2thumbs:

I checked mine last night and they fit a lot closer than yours does.  Not sure how exactly you would correct the fit on that.  Although, I only have the AMD dutchman panel with original quarters.  Maybe the tolerences were off a little in the corners of yours...?

gtx6970

I tripple ck'd the trim to make sure  I had the right one, I do .

I think I will slit it near the edge and make my own curve to fit the trim then fill the slit in.

But right quarter is off of it now, so we'll see how well that  side fits in the next couple days and make adjustments as needed

I had the same problem with the 1/4 to corner gap.  I had to put 2 or 3 cuts and then unfolded the seam and make it about 1/4 inch longer and refold.  It worked pretty good.  Im working on the dutchman panel right now.

Hated to do it, but I made a slit in the rear of the new quarter to bring it up to fill the gap to the corner ext

gtx6970

But I get to deal with these next

Ryan

Looks just like mine did.

I'm going to be throwing the AMD rear valance in the trash and getting a good mark one. From the pictures I have seen the fit is 10x better.

I'd like to see what you do with the rear window area. I have yet to tackle this.

very interested in seeing how you match up the rear window area! Looks like mine as I'm starting to fit up the new metal!

Keep us posted!

69rrgrabber

I'm doing the Dutchman panel on my 69 right now.  Until I mocked it all up completely, it was hard to see the solution.   Make sure to clamp it down first, the metal will stretch a bit to mate those 1/4 seams to the Dutchman panel.  Place the trunk lid, chrome trim and vynal top trim before you make the final decision on how to go about it.

gtx6970

customer droped off the rear glass yesterday and I have the glass trim here already( non vinyl top car btw )
so once it's all welded on I'll tackle this area

I will take the rear valance to a friend of mine who has a 12 foot long  sheetmetal brake and see if he can re-bend it to match the end caps

I ran into the same problems 3 years ago when doing a 69. So glad to see AMD is on top of fixing issues. ::)

Putting in a AMD rear valance and AMD tail pan this week in amy 70. Already have a AMD rear cross member on there. Car is braced sitting on its suspension to make sure nothing moved when cutting old metal out. Rear valance is a crap shoot does not fit. If its aligned where it should be vs the rear crossmember its like the whole valance is too tall.

Indygenerallee

Yep, get a bfh out. none of it fit's the way it should.

So far the full floor, footwells, trunk pan, rear roof bow, rear cross member fit pretty good. Outer rocker was not a good of a fit as the other parts, but still acceptable.

Tail pan required the buckets cut out and refitted as with the lights in the finish was awful. Now the rear valance looks even worse.

Could be worse could have nothing to work with.

Ryan

FWIW my goodmark valance showed up today and while it still isn't perfect it fits much better then the AMD part. I think I'll be able to get it to look perfect with a little tweaking.

GTX6970 and Ryan how is the actual stamping on the 69 full 1/4's ? Got a 70 full 1/4 on my car and it is wavy full length. Will need some putty and blocking before any high build/spray bondo and blocking can start. I bought mine back when they first became available.

The panels are thick and were $1800 you would think they would be straight.

Indygenerallee

My AMD 69 full 1/4's I just got a couple months ago had plenty of waves and defects.
Sold my Charger unfortunately....never got it finished.

Ryan

Yep they are plenty of waves in mine to.

Here is a pic of the good mark valance.

Thanks for the pic and I guess my hopes were too high for straight 1/4's.
