Lol.  Uh....I don't think I'd want to be standing at the end of the skidding turn the cars make in clips 3 and 4.  Are these people retarded or something?  If they're movie extras/cast members then I hope they're getting paid well.

In any case, yeah the original chase scene was and still is an inspiration to a lot of us, but it has its share of flaws that keep me from getting all googley-eyed over it.  Hopefully they'll produce this version perfectly and it'll be that much more memorable.  That Mustang needs to be green, though.

Edit: I'll go ahead and say that the chase scene will be lame on the account of time; there's no way on God's green Earth they'll dedicate 10 minutes of screen time to a car chase.  I bet it'll be a few snips of a chase and that'll be that...

Ghoste

I like that they chose to do it more as a tribute and didn't go to the trouble of actually trying to duplicate it perfectly with 68 vintage cars.  Using modern ones and just leaving a vintage Bug in the background as a hint is kind of cool in my books.

It will air on the final episode of Alcatraz. My DVR will be set for sure.  :yesnod:

The footage also needs to be sped-up a bit so the cars don't look so heavy.

Car chases are hardly ever shown in 100% real speed.  We only notice when they go too far with it.

bull

Why didn't they use a green Bullitt tribute Rustang? Bad enough that they used a new "Charger" but at least they got the color right on that one.

Ghoste

I don't know, I think if you lean too hard on the original it lessens it.  The more they add the more we start to pick apart the little things.  Kind of a less is more situation to my way of thinking.

Well I guess I'm going to have to start watching this show...

SRT-440

The main character on Alcatraz drives a green mustang just like the one on Bullett.

I agree on principle but using a blue mustang rather than a green one isn't much of a new variation.  It takes away from the reference without adding new creativity.  I can understand if the show's plotline calls for a blue mustang, but a green one would have been better if the choice of colors wasn't constrained by anything.

Bob T

Well, its a homage to The Classic Chase Clip after all, I'm guessing this Alcatraz program is set in the present day? but yeah I reckon a green late model mustang should have been first pick

On homage clips, what else is out there? Audioslaves version of V.P. in Show Me How To Live was 1st Class

    along with the 8spd mustang shifts as I recall

by the way, saw your car here in town, ok not yours but very close, extremely nice, I tailed him to meet him, finally pulled out to not be creeping him out or stalk him, but man it was a nice quality car. :2thumbs:

I can't tell if that was the latest generation of Charger or not.  I hope they use that car as it looks worlds better than the previous generation...

TUFCAT

I agree on principle that a DARK GREEN Mustang should have been used but... :scratchchin:  You know what? ...I really wasn't that bothered about the color. :D

To me this is about re-creating the most iconic and worshiped muscle car chase scene ever put to film!  :yesnod:

From the clips, they reproduced almost every aspect of the original downtown chase scene... and they used actual drivers and real cars (not a stupid computer generation)

Obviously the Mustang was blue, but to my knowlege nobody else has ever attempted to duplicate this scene with modern versions of the original cars. ;)

The stunt crew and production company should be applauded for their efforts.  Hopefully our Mopar and Ford loving youths of the future will be digging this cut for decades to come - just like we've done with the original.  :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Well, and I'm just guessing here, but maybe that Charger and Mustang were just test mules so they could iron out the kinks in the planning of the chase.  It's possible that the final cut will have the appropriately colored cars.  Didn't someone here say that the main character of the series drives a green Mustang?
