I run a Grant 846 with the adapter kit.   I like it.       Some people here will tell you that you need to buy a "closer to stock" reproduction for 3X  the price.    I figure it's YOUR choice.

I saw one in a very wicked '69 Charger at Lebanon Valley Dragway . That answered my question as to how it looked in a 2nd gen. Charger. It looks TUFF !!  If  I remember right it was a stick car with a six pack , awesome car!!   :drool5:

Anybody know how many 1970 chargers got tuff wheels from the factory? Seems they are pretty rare.

Yep 71 was the first year in B-bodies.  Was it available in other lines in 70?

There's a member here with a tuff wheel in his 69, thought it looked pretty good. Might have been JB666.

I got a Grant woodgrain tuff wheel in my '69. My old '73 had a factory installed tuff wheel.

Did some searching and apparently some 1970 chargers did have a factory tuff wheel S84 option code. Pretty rare though mid year intro.

Ghoste

Really?  Did you find a dealer bulletin or something?

If you don't mine me asking, where did you find this information? I have never seen one from the factory, but I wouldn't mind seeing what you came up with.

F8-4life

I read it on the option code lists at 1970 charger registry.

ChargerST

straight from the registry: "S84 - Steering Wheel Tuff 9 built* 0.1% N/A Became available February 12, 1970 *Without A47 Option 0 built with A47"

Put a tuff wheel in my 70 and I think it looks really cool. I used the a-body column adapter. Bear in mind that 70 columns have a larger diameter than 68 columns - the adapter can needs some mods to make it fit. There is a thread on this board about it.

Here's my setup (with the light woodgrain) and another picture I found.

Ghoste

9!! Wow!  And I thought my 67 woodgrain wheel was rare.

I love the look of the tuff wheel. I got one I'm putting in my Duster :yesnod: Just need the adapter.

I'm running one in mine...I chose it because I loved the style AND I needed to get a wheel that wasn't huge like the OEM wheel, which felt like a bus wheel.

And here's one in my buddy's Cuda..

Cody,
Do you have an original tuff wheel or a Grant tuff wheel. A Grant tuff wheel uses an original adapter or you can use a normal grant adapter (it has both patterns in the wheel).

Jeff, I like the 70 seats! are they comfortable?

1968 Charger B5

for those running the tuff wheel in their 68-70 chargers, did you need a spacer between the wheel and steering column, or did you just bolt it right up.....
question is for those with factory columns not flaming river columns please.....thank you!

There was an article in Mopar Action about using a tuff wheel in a B-body. You have to use the adapter or the wheel would hit the turn signal lever. The problem about using the adapter is that it puts the wheel really close to your chest - but there is a shorter adapter which can be found in 70s Vans - it's just half the length of the A-body adapter. You could also try to shorten the A-body can on a lathe and then reweld it. Bear in mind that you have to bend the turn signal lever if you use a shorter can!

I just have the standard grant adapter i bent back the turn signal lever, i don't like the wheel towards my chest. You can always add the adapter later.

Here just went and took a side pic for you will give you some idea remember my car has been changed to right hand drive so the column is at a different angle.

Stretch

Man that right hand drive looks odd! Love the woodgrain though!

I purchased one of the re-pop wheels and for the most part I am ver happy with it.
However I would love to find a better pad. I have the plastic one and it is flimsey!!
Anyone have a beat up wheel they would like to sell the horn pad and holder from?

Nacho-RT74

originals are plastic too Bob ( except 71/72 SEs and 75 and lates models keyed colored tuff wheels )... read on 3rd gen board what I posted about that
