2nd gen rear seat bottom....

Installing new rear seatcovers on my seats.  I took the rear seat out and I always noticed that the pass side seat bottom looks "bowed in" at the front of the seat.

Looking at this pic I swiped from an ebay auction, it looks like this seat does the same thing as mine.  (bow is on the left side of the bottom piece in the pic)

Looking at the frame underside itself, it looks like the drivers side of the frame front is straight while the pass side looks bent in at the far edge giving the "bowed in" shape.......

Anyone else confirm that this is "supposed to be" or just the ill effects of a large occupant getting in on the pass side too much....

Chris, if your seat looks like that, then the seat frame is bent. It can & should be straightened.
My guess is that it might of gotten bent by someone in the past who attempted to remove the rear seat but didn't know how, & pulled up on it too hard bending the seat frame.

OK thenI assumed it should be straight on both sides.   Should be easier to straighten when I get the covers off......

Thanks!

Here is a pic of my seat after the covers were installed. I don't think mine has that problem either.

Ty, yours actually looks bowed on both sides in that pic......see how the corners peak up?
So hard to tell though from the pic.  It might just be the angle.

I wish I cold get a look at the framework of another seat to be sure.

Chris, I'll see if I can snap some pics of the back seat in my '68 for ya.
I'll probably be working on some stuff for the '69 at my parents' house this weekend, the rear seat is there for the '69. Either way, I'll get some pics to you.  :icon_smile_cool:

I have another two seat bottoms at home I will check out. I was standing above the seat in that pic so it might be the angle. The seat was out of a '70 super Bee that was not abused much if that makes sense.

Chris,

Here a some pics of a '70 seat bottom I had over at the shop. The curve seems original as I don't notice any bends in the frame. I am having a hard time seeing the problem in the Ebay pic too so  :shruggy:

Took some pics....clearly it looks like the pass side of the frame is bent upward......Hopefully ill be able to straighten it out when I take the skins off.....

Note the difference in the flat area of the inner frame from the pass side (which is bent) to the drivers side

Yes, Chris. You can see in your pic that the top bar is bowed. You should be able to straighten that out no prob.

Looks like the front edge of the springs where the deck meets the front support bar/rail is bent, when you take the covers and foam off you should be able to fix it, my friend the upholsterer put new burlap over the spings and jute pad over them before he put the foam back on the frame.
