Adding lights to the Console

I'm wondering if anyone has added or customized a light for their console.  While driving in the dark, it's hard to see which option I select on my automatic 73 (I'm still getting used to it, so I haven't gotten it down yet).  Has anyone customized a light for their console?  I can't put a light underneath the options since that black thing would block the light.  Any ideas?  I thought of those shift knobs that generate light (those chrome skulls and such), but they seem to....ricer for my car and I have no idea if wires come out of that thing in the first place.

Oh and Troy, if you come across this, I apologize if I placed this thread in the wrong section - I wasn't too sure whether it is an electical or interior question.

I don't get it... shifter already has light.... there is an orange wire running from kick passneger side up to center console down the carpet. Kick end with male spade terminal and shifter end with bulb socket

There is?  When I had my console out, I didn't see any light at all.  That is strange.  I'll look at my wiring diagram when I get home.  Hopefully I'll find it.  Thanks for letting me know, perhaps that'll be my task for this weekend!

Nacho, I may not be looking good enough, but I fail to see a Console light on this wiring diagram (below).  I see a Gear Indicator Lamp, but that is only for Columns.

Is on accesories section of wiring diagrams. The wire is on two parts. First section of wire comes from the underdash accesories switch area. Starts on a male bullet kind plug conected on the triple female bullet king source on underdash wiring ( labeled on diagram as "orange mold" and with another note with an arrow saying "accesories tittle lamps" ) and arrives up to passenger kick panel area with a female spade terminal. Next section is the one I described earlier. I don't know if you installed a new carpet on your car but if you did and didn't find any orange wire then you have missed. Check under shifter scale and you probably will find or socket out of housing and hanging around or maybe just bulb blowed. You don't need even to remove center console, just look closely above the console on shifter area and will find.

The socket just plugs on a hole under shifter scale, same as clusters bulbs sockets
