...and not the kind that I look forward to. :icon_smile_big:

She started in with the old, "How much money have you spent on that stupid car? How much more do you have to spend?  blah blah blah"

I came back with all of the sacrifices that I've made over that last twenty years to help offset the $$ going to the Charger.  And what it's worth.

She came back with, "It doesn't matter what it's worth, you're never going to sell it."

So I say......"I might not ever sell the car, but YOU sure as hell might go any day now."

That's all I remember until this morning.

Did she clobber you this morning :icon_smile_blackeye: ?  LOL. i feel your pain though. Hang in there she doesn't understand your commitment. Maybe if she found out the car was suddenly worth a LOT of money, she will probably change her mind however, if that happens she may pressure you to sell it so she can get the money. :popcrn: hang tough and don't give in. :2thumbs:

I have an EX wife and a 70 Charger still....she only piped up 1 time about MY car and I didn't need to say a word, my kids jumped her! I ended up keeping the kids to!
Seriously though don't forget to spend some time and money on her every now and then!

Of course I was just kidding about that last part...I didn't say it, and she didn't wack me.....

But I WANTED to......

Troy

Never tell them what it's worth - that adds dollar signs to a divorce! ;)

OR, in the worst case, it's sold while you are gone without your knowledge. :icon_smile_blackeye:

I believe money (or, more precisely, how the other spends it) is at the top of the list of reasons to fight within a marriage. A budget (with documentation!) helps. It's amazing what a woman can spend on shoes, spas, gifts for friends, etc. when no one is watching. Of course guys can do the same with tools and car parts. Since a classic car is worth a lot (and it's around long after shoes and clothes have been trashed) it tends to become the focus whenever money gets tight. Having a documented history of how much you've spent (or not spent) over time helps. On the other hand, most women aren't logical so it's easier to just hide what you spend and let them think of it as the "old junker out back". :D

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Ghoste

Of course, its pretty rare for shoes and spa visits to be sold in an estate sale if the wife passes first.  And chances are she won't go first.

My wife and I have come to an agreement, we put an agreed upon amount into a central bank account that pays all the houehold bills and puts a fair amount into savings, then what's left we have seperate checking accounts the money goes into, we pay our personal bills like car payments and such then what's left over is none of the other persons business how it's spent.  She does ask on occasion how much I pay for a part, I give her the same answer - none of your business, it's my money!

This is the main reason as a 26 year old I will be buying a charger before any mention of the "M" word.  If I already had it before "M" then its part of the deal!

Oh, and might I add... my logic is sound and will never be questioned

It is working but every now and again she does try to control my money and I have to reminde her it's mine and not her's.

You could always get a prenuptial agreement before you get married so that your charger STAYS YOURS ! :smash: :smash: If the wife ever askes how MUCH you spent on some parts just tell her "NOt as much as you did on those  23 pair of matching shoes :pullinghair: I know that when I finally get the car of my dreams the wife will support me and that IS a relief not to have to worry about that, she IS i guess you can say, A " Numbers matching " wife

My wife has no problem with my big shop behind the house, or the fact that I have three Chargers. Unlike many others in the construction trade I don't stop at the bar every night on the way home, don't smoke, no drugs, my only vacation is Carlisle once a year. I have easily averaged over 50 hours a week at work for the last 20+ years. My Charger hobby is my only outlet.

I have had my car one year longer than the wife, 33 years. She knows what the car means to me. Only once in a while we get into it about the car.....but it's me bitching about not enough money going into it  :icon_smile_big: She even said I can sell her classic if I want to finish the Charger. I said no because we still need to get out to cruises and shows till the Charger is done. A funny thing happened last summer when my car was leaving on a trailer to get painted. She said I never thought I would see the car leaving before me!....I said yeah but when it leaves it coming back

I'm going to assume you mean car guy not cat guy.  I am somewhat lucky in that the wife is a car girl and I have made her a MOPAR girl (she has a Challenger SRT8), but she does have a controlling side and seems to like to tell me how to spend MY money.  I do have to put that straight on occasion but it doesn't get heated and she concedes it is my money...

Edit:  Oh yeah and she's a hot little blond almost 14 years younger then me :-p

Ha...yeah, she resembles that statement.

The thing is...like someone else mentioned as well, I come home every night, don't drink (too much), don't cheat on her, and my daily drivers are her hand-me-downs (2006 Sienna....I know.. I know....I've got 3 kids).  I'm pretty much at my family's beck and call.

The only thing for me that I've put money into is this car, and she gives me little support.  :flame:

I've got a little bit of artistic talent and pretty good attention to detail, so my long term restoration has been like an automotive work of art.  It would be very therapeutic if my wife didn't make such an issue out of it.

I bought the car before we were married, and it'll be around when she's gone.  Or I'm dead.

That's sad mate.  When I was building mine I spent all night every night in the garage (only came in to eat) the wife sat watching TV on her own. But she knew how passionate I was about it and though she did sometimes think it was taking over my life she never bitched..................she just said if it makes you happy, it makes me happy. Yeh!  Why is that!?!?!?!  Its funny how sweet and charming they are and then blam!  I gotta say that my wife is pretty good although she really doesn't like the fact when Carlisle comes up that Im gone for 4 days (if I do get a chance to go) leaving her home with the two young kids.  I've suggested that they come along but she says that there is really nothing to keep the kids attention for that long there.  I kinda have to agree with that.

I am thankful for my wife in this respect. Her father has owned a bunch of vintage rides from MGB's and other old British cars to a 67 GTO to a 76 Corvette and has raced SCCA since his 20's (he's 63 now) so at least she understands the obsession that comes with these cars. The last time I even hinted at selling the Charger I got a half hour lecture on why that's not going to happen. :2thumbs: I've been kinda moping around for the last two weeks because I want another sportbike (sold my last one 2 years ago when we found out we were expecting). Tonight she tells me to go talk to the bank tomorrow about getting a loan for another one. I love her to death. Of course, this will all probably come back to haunt me in a couple years when she decides she wants her own road course car...

There's a lot of truth to that in some cases. I'm related to one such woman who turned into a venom-spitting, paranoid, superbitch after she had her first kid. Some hormonal screw up I guess. She's still going strong in that mode 12 years later. Her husband is a prisoner in his own house.

You would think so.......hard to tell who's fooling who during a courtship.  Skeletons are bound to fall out of everyones closet.

I drove a 1962 Pontiac Catalina 2 door, 389, as a daily when we first met.  I resto'd that car, drove it for a few years and sold it to buy the charger, before we were even engaged.

Glad you guys get them market off the market for us.

The thing is.............they only grow their horns after they're married!

There's a lot of truth to that in some cases. I'm related to one such woman who turned into a venom-spitting, paranoid, superbitch after she had her first kid. Some hormonal screw up I guess. She's still going strong in that mode 12 years later. Her husband is a prisoner in his own house.

Nice try on your post modification of the woman, Bull. :scratchchin:

Don't worry, your secret's safe with us..... :icon_smile_wink:

It's not that really. I don't care what she thinks anymore. I just don't want her embarrassing you, me, herself, her family, the human race, etc. The farther I am from the center of her radar the better for everyone because I have a very little tolerance for her BS. I just thank God every day that I never hooked up with her because it could have happened. 100 pounds and 18 years ago she looked good and acted normal but now she's not happy unless she's pissed off.
