I was browsing this forum 1 day and saw a new post about the DIRTY MARY CRAZY LARRY (DMCL) CHARGER and in that post was a link to the magazine article, I clicked onto it and saw a picture of PETER FONDA & SUSAN GEORGE  from the movie and as i scroll down, suddenly there are about 4 pictures of me & my charger from the 1970's along with some information about my ownership of my charger with a couple of facts that were incorrect. The information & the pictures were taken from THIS site & then published without me knowing ANYTHING about it.The editor of that magazine has posted here in these forums and stated  if there were some incorrect facts he would correct them. I emailed him as he requested and gave him the straight "scoop" :chatting: :vert: However he never replied back to me as I had requested in my email to him, so i would know he recieved the email. There was also a picture of a DMCL clone charger belonging to  one of the  members of this forum in that article, and the member was not aknowledged. The answer to your question then is, YES that does happen without the people mentioned  in the magazine article Knowing  anything about it so it can come as a surprise.

So it's unethical reporting then. :icon_smile_angry: Well, I guess we shouldn't let ethics stop us from getting what we want. That seems to be the way it works these days.

There was yet another story about another member here who had his white 69 totaled by a dually pickup and that also had pictures. all the information in both stories was information & pictures  taken from this forums posts . I knew nothing about it & found out after it was published, i notified the other member in his original post and included a link just in case he didn't know the story was published.

I though that was JB666's car and BKAuto that made headlines??  Would like to know anyhow.

It did.. but the HLpag guys deserve the spotlight just as much, if not more.. But, typical in business these days, Hans folded up shop and opened the next day under a new name, screwing new victims.

Modelmaker- OH wow ANOTHER website that has my story and using my pics and not talking to me about it hahaha. Jeez. There was another site, I think it's one where Mr. Angry writes at?

I should start marking my photos so that they'll at least have to contact me if they wanted to use them, or talk to me, specially the one with the model but oh well.

as for the driver of the dually-his insurance claims he's not at fault and don't want to pay anything. he had passengers, 4 girls-in his truck and one of them sent a letter through a lawyer asking if I was insured or something along those lines, where I had to send proof of insurance to the state? haven't heard back since.

My insurance paid for what I had the car appraised at and they've been great to me.

However, with this other insurance, I don't want to get sued or anything stupid like that, specially when I wasn't the one at fault-so I'll be getting some legal help to be safe and because I really am pretty ignorant when it comes to all this stuff.

I'm no expert, so I can't say that I would have fared better in say, a honda or new challenger or another truck in regards to the type of metal used in cars for safety nowadays but the dude was not only in a Chevy Dually-but hit me at 70mph at least.

Thanks man.

Haven't lucked out yet. Have come close a few times, have checked out a few that were within a 5 hour drive (all have been overpriced junk). I've been looking more at decent projects/drivers, something that's not "done" because the white one that was wrecked-I bought it as that and ended up doing major work/restoration/replacing/whatever you want to call it to all the mechanical aspects of it besides the engine and AC, everything else was a timebomb/full of gremlins/baaaaad work done to it haha. But I had that car running perfect after all that.

Elanmars Damn the poor Charger is toast, good to see your OK, I never saw the post about it....

I appreciate it. I'm still not 100% recovered, maybe I never will be but at least I'm at a point where I can run for a bit, even if my stamina totally sucks at the moment!

As a photographer, I do have difficulty with one eye after shooting for a while, which blows but I'm getting around it. I still can't lift anything too heavy. I probably should have chilled more and taken it easier but even with insurance, once the medical bills started, then going back to school, paying for day care, replacing my photography stuff (my $3000+ camera was a casualty in the wreck) I had to start making money. and I'm very busy, used to staying up late working hard on photos/school work and having to cut things short in order to rest (otherwise I feel discomfort on my face where I had surgery, where I guess the muscle in there is still rebuilding/healing).

anyway, here's the original post in case you were curious -

Hang in there man.  Lesser people would give up and wither somewhere but at least you're trying, fighting the good fight, and you've at least won the battle on that account.  I hope everything else falls into place eventually...

ElanMars, what does your insurance company say about this ? there WAS a police report right ? that guy in the dually & 4 girls ? tell me he wasn't distracted and showing off & at 70 PLUS MPH ? you should be suing the CRAP out of HIM and his cutrate insurance co. he probably has. What about his driving record, I wonder how many tickets/ accidents HE has ? :popcrn: :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

My insurance said they were handling it, whatever that means. They paid me for what my car was appraised at pretty fast, which was awesome. There was a police report but I'm confused as to why the witness at the scene wasn't listed. Doesn't say anything about the other guy's driving record if he was distracted (I'm sure he was).

I am going to be talking to a lawyer/law firm about this, this week. I'm pretty ignorant with this whole insurance thing but I was recommended this lawyer from a good friend and we'll see from there, I suppose.

Make sure you can get ALL the other guys driving information to see if he is a "NEGLEGENT" DRIVER" IF THE GUY HAS A HABIT OF traffic accidents and tickets, this way it can be easier to prove he did something to contribute to what happened. he had what 4 girls in his truck ? if it goes to court they will be witnesses however, if they lie, not all four will be able to get the lies straight. When you choose this lawyer, ask what his fee structure is, you want to pay a contingency payment ( he takes a percentage of what you get )  & not an hourly. Hourly tends to cost you more because anytime he talks on the phone to you it will cost you. I found an hourly fee schedule tends to make the attorney take LONGER as he makes more money, so go contingency which is a percentage. you were lucky you wern't killed, IF you had passengers they would have by the looks of the right side of your charger. Now finding another charger is going to be a challenge, i hope your insurance company paid you enough for your loss and i hope they go after that other guy to recover. GOOD LUCK !

Thanks a bunch, I will take that advice for sure and highly appreciate it. While I received enough to buy a nice Charger, being out of work for months, needing to re-purchase very expensive camera + equipment, day care, school etc. has made to I'm at a point where I'm looking for a really good project or luck out on a decent deal. Most cars I've found 5 hours within me, have been ultra over priced junk. I look all over the states though but haven't lucked out in 6 months. Soon...it's weird for me because the past 4 years, my daily drivers have all been the Chargers I've had (started with a '73, then had a '69-sold that, then my white RIP '69).

Thats the hard part, even though you have the money, it is FINDING one that you don't have to start all over with. The one you had you knew and finding one as good as that is going to be a chore & then again you could find one tomorrow.

On that note, I know this is probably a tired question but I haven't had my nose in the classic car hobby for a while.  What do decent, driveable Chargers go for these days?  I'm talking about a car like mine: not numbers matching, needing minor paint & body but "all there" and capable of being reliably driven on a daily basis-a solid foundation for a project?  I'm not looking to sell, I just want to know what we're up against when tragedy strikes...

skip68

I'd say in the $14k to $18k range.   Maybe more.    :shruggy:

That's not as bad as I thought.  Of course, just getting back from ebay all I can say is "wowzers."
