What sort of stereo is in your Charger?

I'm ready to step into the NOW and finally install a modern stereo in my Charger. The original AM radio has been inop for several years, and lately I have been making improvements to make the car better. I'm interested in hearing from members with aftermarket stereos. What brands are popular? What styles and how much $$? I'm interested in a unit with AM/FM and an MP3 port. I'd prefer to NOT cut the dash to fit in a CD player. Are there any stereo decks that utilize the old 2 knob design?
What do YOU have under your dash???

If you don't want to do any serious cutting might I suggest one of these:

http://www.casmfg.com/Secretaudio.htm

The faceplate is small, and only about 1/2" thick. I hid mine in the console, but it also comes with a little mount bracket to mount it under the dash. You can hook up an mp3, iPod, CD player/changer, & it's satellite radio compatible. You can also hook up external amps, etc. Also has a small hand-held remote.
I have this combined with 6 cabin speakers, 2 subs in the trunk, and 2 amps. Sound is incredible.
Other members here have it installed without any additional power amps or subs, sound is still very good.

If the original look is still what you're after, check out here:

He'll convert your existing stock radio with modern internals. You can hook up either a CD player or an iPod/mp3 player. Upgrade from the original speakers in your car and you have a very nice sounding sound system as well.

I have an in dash radio/cd unit.
If you get an 8 track bezel it takes very little modification to use it with a modern unit.

Do you have to supply a core? I have an AM/FM in my Charger and don't really want to gut it if it still works. Seems silly as I understand they are quite rare.

Stock fully functional AM radio. But........I installed a SecretAudio system driving 5x7 Bose on the package tray and 5.5's in the door panels. This system will drive any input.....CD, iPod, XM radio and outboard amps plus it has a wireless remote good to 50 feet away from the unit.  :2thumbs:

i'd try that one seems to be a good unit i heard but pricey , or my second choice would be to keep the am in the dash and get the newest secret audio with the   remote

x3 on the secret audio.  I have one in my console hooked up to a pair of 6x9s in back and a DVC 4x10 in the dash.  It sounds great but I have been thinking of adding some sort of a sub to the mix.  Nothing that will shake the rear window out of the car, but the low-end is a little lacking for my taste.  Also, I need to put some sort of resistor or crossover in place on the 4x10. When it gets the amount of bass signal the 6x9's get it rattles a bit.  But that's if I crank it up, it does have to contend with a 3" x-pipe exhaust and Magnaflow mufflers though.   ;D  I also have a stock AM radio in the stock dash location not hooked up, just for show.

Yes, but I would NOT be using an original AM/FM.

buy a  decent am core and let them use it instead

I removed the faceplate today and was happy to see that the factory opening is about 2 1/2"x 7 1/2", PLENTY wide enough to accomodate a modern deck. I might decide on a CD player after all....

Paul G

Sony AM/FM/CD mounted in a Metra under dash housing with a pair of Kicker 6x9's in the rear deck. Still need to put a pair of 3 1/2" speakers in the factory dash location and get a sub in the trunk next to the spare somehow. Right now it is adequate. The Kickers have enough bass punch to get over the Turbo Flow's with out a sub and still sound good.
