I am curious and would like to know how many 1972 charger rallye 440 cars are still out there. I am especially interested in the number of 440 rallye coupes (WL21U2xxxxxxx) that are still around. I have an automatic coupe (1 of 28) and I know of two 4-speed coupes (really rare, just made 11 of those). These cars are starting to move up into the 1971 superbee and R/T values as more and more people realize how unusual they are (and the door louvers are just cool). If you own one of these cars, or know of someone who owns one, send me an email and I will begin a list. If I get enough response, I may start a new web page devoted to the 1972 Charger Rallye. Also, I am sending my charger to the body shop next week for a rotisserie restoration, and I will post progress pictures as I go along.

There was a WL21 coupe at the 2004 Charger registry meet in Madison, WI last year. I believe the owner was from Michigan as he took the ferry across to get there. I have some pics at home of the car. it was one of the 28 built as Wayne Wooten made mention of it during the show.

The WL21 is the base model coupe with no roll down rear windows. I think they just had bench seats and a few other small differences too.

Was it orange with a black vinyl top?   My dad bought a new 72 440 car back in the day new. He traded it in 74. This was in madison wi. as we lived there until 1975. I have always wondered what ever happened to that car.

Here is a picture of it probably in the 1973 time frame.

That car does not have Ralley doors.  Did they build 440 cars in 72 that were not ralley package or did they build ralley package cars with out the ralley doors?

Here is the 1972 440 coupe that was at the Madison Registry meet in 2004. I can't remember if the owner had added the '71 hood or if he bought it that way. I think he bought it out of a impound lot somewhere a few years ago. He plans to restore it to original.

I have a hard top (see link in my sig) and there is another one in my club. It's a 4-spd car as well. As you know, coupes will be few and far between...

If you are seriously thinking about putting up a website devoted to '72 440 Rallye cars, I have lots of pictures I'b be willing to share for the site.

I like that 72 Charger.  It looks freaky with the 71 R/T hood.  I wonder if he's going to restore it with the correct 72 bulge hood?  I would love to have that R/T hood.

I have a 72 Rallye, 440, 4 speed car, FE5, from Texas.  Personal collection car.  Not for sale!

I talked to him several times that day and before coming to the show he did not realize how rare the car was. By the end of the day he was planning to get a bulge hood and restore it to factory specs. I had hoped he would return to future meets but, have not seen it again.

69RT...4 speed,

If you see him again, tell him I have a 72 Bulge hood and would trade for his 71 R/T hood plus cash.

Thanks

AK, is that yours? is it B5?

Correct Sir!
I think it came out pretty good considering it was a shade tree job...literally, Recently hung the wheel and hood/trunk trim back on...looks much better. JUST NEED SOME ROOF EMBLEMS

Todd, how ya been? Yes, we moved if you can beleive it. We had the chace to move back to Cincinnati so we did. Thats why I've not been around lately. Thanks for posting a pic of the old blue smurf, still looks the same except I put a new set of Rallye wheels on it. I still don't know if I like the new look or not.
