I've heard about this being done to achieve quick ratio power steering.  Anyone actually done it?

idler arm should work without modification (bought one myself to go with my fast ratio steering arm - but haven't installed them yet). Pitman arm: different story as far as I know - large sector (you will need a 73up PS steering box or a C-body box) and master splines are in a different location. You could try to file the splines away though. Biggest problem is the taper of the ball joint as the c-body arm is shaped differently - you would have to use a c-body center link or you could try to machine your center link to accept the c-body pitman arm.

They say '74 Newport 11/16" tie rods fit.  Could the Idler/pitman taper on the drag link be the same?

I have used the C-body outer/inner tie rods and sleeves. Check out page 11 on the link and i have a list of all the parts i used for the front end rebuild.

Back N Black, why did you use a '67-'72 A-Body pitman arm?
