Anyone using composite rear springs?

Anyone using them? If so how do you like them? :scratchchin:
They sure get rid of a pile of unsprung weight! They weight about 10lbs each! Pretty common with dirt circle track racing.  I'm all into reducing weight, just gotta be sure they are safe for street use? Composite leafs have been used in vettes for years as well as Chevy astro vans and sprinter vans, and some Volvo's
They are only available with the 20" front segment so one would need to use the hangers from a supper stock spring set up. I'm leaning towards trying a set maybe this summer if the budget holds out. I'm more into handling than drag racing so they sound like a good idea to me?
What are your thoughts?

When they first came out on Vettes I remember thinking they would be a terrible thing but time has proven me wrong (again).  I don't know of anyone using them as a retrofit but I would think they are definitely worth exploring.

There's usually a good reason for that $$$$$$

Very interesting, I wonder if they would work with CalTracs Bars or Competition Engineering Drag Links & have the best of both worlds with straight line traction & superior handling, add a set of roller front spring hangers/sliders from Mancini Racing, add a decent sway bar & some good adjustable compression & rebound shocks, it would/could be the real $hit to have on the rear....

There never seems to be an end to what ya want for your car huh?  ;D
Darn budget gets in the way! I'm right in the middle of a 451" build, almost have enough for the Keisler auto OD set up I'm wanting and a Dana from Dr Diff and now this.  :D  greedy bugger huh?
Last winter I did the Hotchkis parts upgrade, Viper calipers, etc....

Thought someone might get some idea's? B-Body and E-Body are pretty much the same front end wise?

I wonder if there are any composite torsion bars for our beloved Mopars, hell all that sprung weight saving might be well worth it...

Are there composite torsion bars for any application?

Brads70

I've never heard of/seen any? The only way I can see of making Tbars lighter is to gun drill them. It's pretty common in circle track cars to have gun drilled sway bars. They are double splined and come in various rates and lenghts, and diameters. Your only limited by your imagination! LOL

Gun drilling a torsion bar seems like a pretty extreme method to try and save a few ounces in a street car though.

Ya I agree. It would also decrease the rate some, so you would need a bigger one to start with. I'd be afraid of it breaking too?  :shruggy:

chevy Astro mini-vans also had composite rear leaf springs.  My dad's was a 1986, but i don't know what the year range was.

That's what I was wondering, "I'm not sure it could even be done", I got someone else thinking about it though... More minds & eyes on the prize ,the better...
