It is with great sadness steeped in woefulness with a healthy dose of "you dumbass" that I share with my peeps here what has befallen the Q5 monster. A couple weeks ago I took the Charger out for a drive and LOF then stopped by Harbor Freight for something or other. When I got home and was putting the car cover back on I discovered this damage done to my baby. I believe it happened at HF even though I parked way out in the lot. I sent Hagerty these pix along with an estimate for $1500 and thy sent me a check about a week later.   :'( :'( :'(

It did. The dent is about 1/8" deep, the upside is that this a "good" place for this to have occured because thay can get to the back side of it and they have to whole panel to blend the repair/paint. The paint is maybe 18 months new so I'm hoping, praying the color match will be spot on.
Couldn't have happened at a worse time, the first show of the season for us is in May and we are hell bent on attending a Gold Country winery show this year that 68x426 and Steve67 have told us about.
I have to stay on the shops' ass to get this fixed before then.

Back when I got my car painted in '98, I caused self inflicted damage to my RR quarter.  My garage is a tight squeeze & have to make a bit of a right to get out of the garage.  Just kissed a wayward nail that was sticking out of the door frame.

10" long gash right down to the metal right above the wheel arch.  paint was 3 months old at the time.  Threw up a bit in my mouth but I had a friend repair & respray the whole quarter...no color match issues at all....

I share your pain twodko.

In almost the same circumstances as Chris I did some damage to my RH fender just a few weeks ago.
Finally got the ok from the insurance company to have the repairs done next week.

It's awful when someone else has damaged your car, but you tend to feel worse when you've done it yourself since you shoulda known better.

It's bound to happen at some point, and it's devastating when it does. I like driving my Charger as much as the next guy, but I won't take it to the store or leave it unattended in a public parking lot. It's too easy of a target for jealous asswipes.

I hope you get it fixed soon, and to your expectations. Beautiful color on your car!  :2thumbs:

Kern Dog

Thats a pisser.
I had a post elsewhere a while back about how annoying it was to have other drivers get close to me with their cars. A man restores a great car and takes efforts to park far away, hoping it will be safe. This happens to me in my cars as well. I walk out and find crappy 200,000 mile beaters parked on each side.
I wonder if the same people that have class envy and want to overtax the rich ALSO have a similar attitude towards nice cars?

I hope the repair turns out okay, good luck.

Sorry Tom. But........
Lesson? Don't drive your car into a parking lot without at least one person watching it. I NEVER leave mine alone, even at car shows and cruises. And how do we know this wasn't one of those tree hugging radicalists that decided to screw it up because of the potential "Threat" it posed?

The silver lining is that Hagerty paid. My policy is pretty clear on when the car is covered, and I don't think the HF parking lot is listed unless there's a car show in it. Although, my plan is to tell them I was the car show, if necessary.

It never ceases to amaze me how careless other people are with no regard or respect for others' property or belongings.  :flame:

I'm very careful where I park my daily driver's, too. I'll even try to find an end spot with my wife's minivan. I look at it as one less a$$hole to park next to.
As Tom's thread shows even parking out in the boonies is no guarantee. Your Ram story reminds me of something that happened to me. When I had my last Ram, it was maybe a year old, I parked it about a dozen spots away from anyone else so nothing would happen to it. Sure enough, I come out of the store to find a shopping car lying on it's side next to my truck. Yep, the wind got a hold of a cart & since my truck was all by it's lonesome it was a prime target for the cart, had a nice dent in the bedside panel. Nailed me for a few hundred in paintless dent repairs.  :flame:
Kicker is, if I was parked next to someone it wouldn't have happened, I would have had a "blocker" vehicle.
If you park next to someone or all by your lonesome, you just never know.

Hey gang, thanks for taking some of the sting out of it. You're right on the money Cooter, this was the first time I have ever left my car unattended so I screwed the pooch on this one. Never again. Bryan, I just put a big 'ol bandaid across the gash and took a pix for the car's history binder. First time I've smiled at it since the event. I clearly remember your post BnB. I stewed about that VT slashing the rest of that day.  Its the same mindless vandalism that hit our other member who had the Charger sailpanel emblem ripped off his car. I think when something happens to our cars we all feel it. The 2 upsides to this is Hagerty came through most ricki tic and I put the first scratch on the car this past car show season. We carry small 3 wheel electric scooter for my wife to shows so she can get around. It comes apart in 3 pieces so it's easy to stuff in the trunk but sure enough, when packing up from one of the shows, the seat post was just high enough to make contact with the underside of the trunk lid. It was actually a relief because it very well could have left a nasty reverse dent in the trunk surface. Another lesson learned there too.
Like I mentioned above........never again!  :brickwall:
On another note, Dan or Steve, would you pm me the info I need for the winery show entry........again. I can't find the original info. Thanks.

I just came into the house after pulling the R/T emblem, clearance marker, gas cap/bezel, fender end cap and "J" trim. Tomorrow I'll get the bumper off and the wheel well molding. If I can contort myself enough I may brave the removal of the VT check molding too. More to follow...............

Unlucky and sorry to hear it Twodko, really like the colour of your car mate  :2thumbs: Hope the repair does it justice

I was at a carshow yesterday and talking with a photographer friend of mine when we both turned around to see someones 'A" frame signboard next to their hotrod take off in the wind and launch across the carpark towards the other club cars on our side of the carpark. Jeez  :o, fortunately the wind dropped quickly and the board hit the ground just short of the closest car, happened so quickly, could have been a real mess. Just another thing to watch for at shows I guess

It's seems to be a "no". Last year was cancelled, and the website (and club name) went dead months ago.

Aww that sucks, good thing you're covered.  I never park far away on a parking lot because it seems to attract the idiots that absolutely have to park real close to it.  I do what I do with my daily, park close to the entrance and so far so good.  I know that someday I may find damage on the car but I refuse to leave it in the garage because something may happen to it.

I saw someone get out of her car a while a go and slam her door into the car next to it, she was on the phone and it looked like she never knew she did this, she never looked at the car or her door and just went her merry way.  That is until I told her I saw what she did and gave her the option to report it or I'd do it for her.  She was genuinely shocked that anyone would care about something like that and pretty much told me she was not wasting her time on that.....so I reported it.   The nerve of some people....

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
