KillerBee1972

I know the owners of that restoration shop, friends of the family, they are very very nice organization. And my uncle is getting his 1 of one 1 challenger restored there. Would love to get that nice piece of NASCAR history
1964 Plymouth Fury "old 70s drag car"
1973 Dodge Charger SE B9 blue 440

Ghoste

It's going to need a lot of love (money) to bring it back but it is an awesome piece of Mopar and NASCAR history.  It would be a great stablemate for the 72 Petty Plymouth that is out there!

I'm the seller of the car, if anybody has any questions let me know.  If it doesn't hit reserve I won't be broken up over it, this is probably the most historic and cool car I'll ever own!  It does need a ton of work but don't they all?

nitrometal

I'd buy it in a heartbeat but I have enough projects that I'll probably never finish now.   :brickwall:

Wow. Wow. Wow.

As much as I would like to go all-in on a car like that, and even though I have built a handful of race cars, I just don't have the expertise to restore it correctly, or the connections to round up specialized parts. Worse yet, it's only a few hours from me.

I'll definitely be watching the aution.

i know where there is a 426 hemi block that harry hyde converted to wedge heads and ford nascar pistons  that ran in the K&K insurance car when nascar outlawed the hemi head
my friend bought from herb mcandless it raced at our local dirt track  one season scared the hell out of my buddy he still has the block and parts!!!

That is pretty cool, good chance it was run in the car at some point.  Had a Petty "Hemiwedge" here in the shop last year, it was one of the motors that ran at the 24 Hours of LeMans in Hershel McGriff's Oly Express Dodge Charger.  An homage of the car is running in the LeMans Classic series in France and the owner of that car bought the motor to reunite it with the car.

Every picture I saw, shows a '73...Not a '72. (looking at the rear quarter window area)

If this is the "superspeedway" car, it was run with a '72 body in the Daytona 500 and the Winston 500 (Talladega) in 73.  Buddy was involved in the "big one" early on in the Winston 500, and I think the car was re-bodied as a 73 after that.

Keep in mind the K&K team had at least 4 cars (maybe more) at any one time, in 70 they had 5.  Proving exactly which car this was and which races it ran is almost impossible.  Know for sure it never ran at Riverside (it didn't have a passenger side filler in the original metal) and since they usually ran short track cars at Riverside this car would be a long track car.  I can prove the K&K lineage just not exactly what races this car ran as a K&K car.  Since K&K was a major Chrysler team it would have ran as a 71-72 body in 72 and a 73-74 body in 73.  Chrysler would want them to rebody it to the current model year.

RTDaddy

The K & K team ran the 71-2 body in the '73 Daytona 500.  There are several pics that bear this out.  I think Harry Hyde thought there was an advantage to the smaller quarter window.  Also the starting line shot from the 73 Winston 500, with Baker on pole and Pearson on outside shows Baker in a 71-2 body style.

I agree; except that I have no experience building racecars.  I'd love to learn, but maybe not on this one...

On a semi related note - anyone know where I can get a rear spoiler like on that Charger ? And what about the front spoiler ? Love those for my 73 .
