I wanted to know if the pinch weld under the rockers were blacked out on a Superbird?

I know for 110% certainty that my car was done and seemingly with a brush. I guess Im looking for guys with unrestored cars to confirm what their cars look like. I unfortunatly was not a member here and have the thought to document every inch of the car prior to beginning the process. If only I knew of HemiGeno 5 years ago. :brickwall:

I have never seen a rocker panel blackout on a Bird.

FJ5WING

Ive heard that from more than one credible source but I gotta tell ya Doug, It sure looked factory and wasnt a professional job. it looked very factroy.  :shruggy:

two original paint birds here (well, until recently, now just one) with no rocker paint.

I also have never seen a bird with the rockers painted and between Doug S, me and a few others on here I think we've seen just about all of them ;)

I'll check mine today.......Don't recall it though. I do have some on a Daytona. They did black out the fender bolt at the rear of the front wheel opening....same as all B-Bodies

Here's mine...all original paint.

It would be interesting to see an original paint '70 Road Runner/GTX to see if they were done. If so, then maybe the Superbirds weren't since they were produced on such a tight/quick timeframe.

Were B-bodies  cars with bright rocker trim blacked out underneath?

Well, I know in '71, it didn't matter.. All cars got brushed black pinch welds, rocker trim or not... Now, maybe black didn't........

Trust me, that's not necessarily a bad thing  :P   Think of all the free time you've had over the past 5 years that would have evaporated while spending hours and hours researching the smallest of details.  You too can take an 8-9 month resto and turn it into a six year extravaganza!  :icon_smile_blackeye:

I had always intended to take lots of photos of my Daytona before it was restored (and there are quite a few snapshots in the folder), but I really wish there were about 10x as many shots from all different angles and locations.  Seriously, it's not really possible to take too many pictures of a car before it's initially restored.  Both Danny/69500 and I have taken our cameras and shot literally thousands of pictures of a single unrestored car, only to have found numerous things afterwards that were not in either of our pictures.  David Patik's advice for many years has been to take tons of photos before and during any disassembly work, and I knew that before getting into my own effort.  I just didn't realize how many areas of detail I'd later have an interest in that were not documented.

Dangit Jim, my neck still hurts from standing on my head to look at those photos.  You need to post a warning for us OCD types that it's easier to flip the monitor upside down instead.

maxwellwedge

Haha - I was going to flip them but got lazy....

OK - Fixed!

FJ5WING

Thanks for all the feedback!

I wont be applying the Black.

I read over on Moparts about the blackout as well.
Someone commented that NO '70 B-bodies ever had the rocker blackout.

Can anyone else confirm if this is fact?  :shruggy:

I took pictures years ago of a 70 Hemi Charger R/T in the original owners hands which DID have blackout on the pinchweld! It was K5 exterior with original paint. He lived in Alabama and I believe he said he bought it new in Birmingham.
