Mr. Lee

I own a 69 Charger with a 440. I want to replace the stock ignition for a MSD ignition in the near future.
I looked on the MSD website and came up with this:

http://www.msdperformance.com/product.aspx?id=16013

http://www.msdperformance.com/product.aspx?id=5665

http://www.msdperformance.com/product.aspx?id=6285

http://www.msdperformance.com/product.aspx?id=5003

What do you guys think yourself what to take? Thanks.

Serge

I've heard the distributor can have clearance issues (think it was in reference to a high rise manifold), otherwise I like the rest.  :Twocents:

I bought the same setup and it's perfect.   The only issue I remember is valve cover clearance depending on what type of valve covers you have.

Yeah, now that sounds more like it... Thought I remembered something had clearance issues  :icon_smile_big:

Get yourself a reman Factory electronic distributor and run the MSD with it..Boom, no more issues. Works great.

So the 4 items together is "plug and play" and just works fine together?

Also, this is what my engine looks like. Will it fit with the valve covers?

Thanks for the input  :2thumbs:

It's funny to read the descriptions of their products, they are really innovative with words "increased power with less current", "up to 135mJ spark energy" (yes, maybe at idle, but at 6k rpm???).
Compare the specs of the MSD Blaster 2 coil with the corresponding FlameThrower III from Pertronics. The FlameThrower III coil leaves the Blaster 2 in the dust.
It's not easy to cut thru the marketing fog if you want something really good...

I like MSD stuff but there are better options for the ignition wires. The QC is not what it used to be  :P

Yes, it's easy to hook up and yes it will fit with your valve covers.   I had the same covers.

No doubt their products are good, but what annoys me is that it is not possible to do a desktop comparison of the different products and vendors, simply because they don't publish all data that is needed. They give glimpses into one or the other good parameter, while the rest remains a black box. Like 135 mJ spark energy, but at what rpm?? I bet at idle, becuse that is where you get maximum, the higher the revs the less energy to the spark plugs. And the text "increased power with less current" may be true in one limited section of the system (by stepping up the voltage), but it's basically BS looking at the whole system. Increased power somewhere in a 12-14V system has to come from increased current, unless there is a small nuclear reactor hidden in the box.
Well, maybe I shouldn't pay attention to the marketing text and try to focus on getting the technical parameters, but "clever" marketing can really get me going... ;D
