Whats even better is when you have 2 '69 Chargers with the SAME last 6 digits of the VIN....I have a few like this in the Registry.

lets see if those who are paying attention can figure that one out ;)

Different assembly plants?

Didn't think of that... Was thinking of the MCG article on the XX car originally issued an XS tag :scratchchin:

Hey Bull,   I don't remember if your '68 was built at the Hamtramck plant or not but kind of interesting if it was built there with the last three numbers being close to mine. Of course, with there being 3 more numbers and the shift I.D., the numbers might not really be that close even considering different years.

I would be curious if yours was built close to a year before mine. My SPD again was 314 or March 14, 1969, both on the fender tag and the buildsheet.

Interesting that the last 6 numbers would match on the same year Charger built at different plants but it makes sense. Must be quite a few with the same last six numbers, in the registry or not. I am not sure where the 1969 Chargers were built besides Hamtramck but, they must have been built at other locations as well. I think Hamtramck was where all HEMI models were assembled but, not sure.

"G" St. Louis was the other plant for '69 Chargers and Hemi Chargers were built there as well....

Not Chargers....sorry....but there's a guy not far from me that has two sequential hemi-cudas.   They look like identical twins, all original, green paint, black interiors.

Sorry, "251" is the first three digits of the sequence on mine, not the last three.

I am guessing you want us to list our actual "sequence" number off our buildsheets, not the vin or order number. If so, this info. is only found on a buildsheet and denotes the car's number coming down the assembly line. This may not have anything to do with the vin (almost always a completely different number) and is not on your fendertag.

For the record:    my "sequence number" has one digit I cannot easily read but it is:  2/xxx250. The first number (2) indicates 2nd shift I think.

Anyone have "251 or even 249?  my car has a SPD of 314 or Friday,  March 14, 1969.

That'd be a good guess, but at Hamtramck in '69 it indicated which production line.  "1" was A-body, "2" was B-body.  I'm not sure what the character(s) in the same box indicated for St. Louis-built cars.

I thought the Daytonas were taken off the line 3 at a time?

It's a misconception that Daytona's or Charger 500's were ever "pulled off the line" for any reason other than to fix assembly line mistakes.  Based on photographic evidence from Creative Industries' backlot, they were assembled just like any other Charger R/T with the exception of omitting the grille assembly, stripe/emblem delete, and installing the "regular" Charger arrowhead tailpanel emblem instead of the R/T (at least that's what was supposed to happen).  Front bumpers, (tall) bumper guards, hoods, fenders, lower valances, turn signals, headlight assemblies, A-pillar rain gutter trim, decklids, rear windows, rear window trim, etc. were all installed - but later removed and disposed of in some fashion.  From a Federal Safety Standards and weathertightness standpoint, they were complete cars and went through pretty much every assembly process.

You are quite correct in that the VIN sequence numbers were in batches of various sizes (there's one batch of 55 in a row) - but that's not to say those cars or any other batches were built back-to-back.  MoparJohn's Daytona is one number lower than my car, although I don't recall what his Broadcast Sheet's sequence number is.  Nascarxx29's formerly-owned Daytona was 1,700+/- off in VIN sequence number, but only 24 lower than mine on the Broadcast Sheet sequence.  The plant's production order varied significantly, and there's simply no way to know exactly what order the cars were actually built - as has already been said.

:Twocents:

Oh, and mine are 9G210100 (127 SPD), 9B412543 (609 SPD).

charge69

Good info as I had already forgot about the 1-A body/2-B body thing at Hamtramck.

Thanks.

dstryr

There are 3 A12 cars in the Iowa area with sequential VINs & VONs, two T7 bronze cars, one F8.  Can't remember if the F8 car leads or ends the sequence.

I know it doesn't answer any Charger questions, but its kind of neat to see 3 cars still fairly close together that likely rode the same train west from Lynch Road. ;)

I meant I thought they were taken off the Charger assembly line 3 at a time (in a row) to be converted at Creative.
