Can you tell me the best way to remove dried rubbing compound on a clear coat finish.  It has been dried for a long while, and I don't want to hurt the finish.  Should I try to "re-wet" it with water before trying to remove it, or try it "dry"?  What should I use to rub it off?  It is on the underside of the hood, but I don't want to rub through the finish clearcoat.  Any advice is appreciated.  Also have some in the grill vents in the hood.  Just never saw it till it was VERY dried.  Thanks for the advice.

Soap and water if its recently tried, and a sponge or very soft bristle brush.

If its reeeally dried on there ive heard peanut butter (yes peanut butter, mmm) works well..i assume its due to the vegetable oil so id wager veggie oil would also work.

If water doesn't work wax and grease remover should do the trick

Sometimes more of the compound itself will loosen it up.
