The whole "Imported From Detroit" campaign is about the Chrysler 200 and the legacy of Detroit where it is assembled. Even in the current Clint commercial, it's still about Detroit and the hard times they have been through and are seemingly rising up from. You've been tricked if you think they are directly speaking about anything else.

Chrysler's ad guys are most certainly trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by making us FEEL that Chrysler is  somehow a more American, or is becoming more American of a car company. But nowhere in these ads are they coming right out and saying it. It's the typical smoke and mirrors of advertising.

The ad definitely brings up some emotions. Then you switch from your heart to your brain and realize like all of them, it's just Clint pulling a big paycheck to read a script, and a high dollar ad agency using every trick up their sleeve to elevate their clients status and product and separate you from your dollar.

And..... The Fiat commercial was the best of the game.

You are exactly 1000% spot on.

The ad was about "branding" FIAT/Chrysler as an Amercian car company.

I liked the ad.

I think my parents 68 Plymouth wagon that I learned to drive in said ,"Made in Canada" on the door. So Canada gets a pass.

My 04 Hemi El Ramo was made mostly in Mexico. Maybe a pass, we'll see how it holds up.

I like Eastwood's films, but it is just acting (makebelieve, fantasy, lying)

Do you think he did it for free?

Fair enough.  If it helps, Chrysler has had plants in Canada almost since there was a Chrysler.  In fact the Dodge Brothers had one of their earliest businesses set up in Windsor and then moved back into the US later.  For that matter, the first permanent home built in my hometown was built by Walter P's grandfather.  Socialist government aside we should get a partial pass for that.

from your profile i would say you live in the middle of a damn big lake, how did they build a house out there??? :D

Kind of like there's just a few new Chryslers "imported from Detroit" that are built just a smidgen south of Texas and a smidgen north of the Great Lakes.

The "Imported from Detroit" campaign is about the Chrysler 200, (reportedly) built only in Detroit. There is nothing in the ads clearly stating that it is about anything else.

Why do you keep circling back to it being all of Chrysler?

What are you talking about? Did you see the ad? Did you happen to notice them showing Jeeps, Rams, Challengers, etc., throughout? In fact I didn't even see a 200 in that spot and I know it wasn't specifically mentioned. Did you see it or hear about it? Did you happen to notice the graphic on the screen during the last few seconds?

RallyeMike

Did you listen to the ad? It's not just a picture book.

The ad series on the face of it is about Detroit and that it's making a comeback, and it was specifically started based on the 200 which is made only there.  So the ad includes shots of Chryslers, Jeep and Rams and their logos..... why not? They DO build Chryslers and Jeeps in Detroit and Ram 1500's in Warren nearby - not just Mexico or Canada.

I heartily agree that there is a subliminal purpose to this ad, but nowhere do they SAY they are building most or every Chrysler in Detroit or even in America which is the falsehood of your concern.

Come on. You just got done trying to school me about this ad being just about the 200 and now you're back-peddling. Yes, I listened to the ad. That's why I said, "I know it wasn't specifically mentioned. Did you see it or hear about it?"

RallyeMike

The ads can't be about both the 200 AND the Rise of Detroit? Perhaps you already forgot the fist ad in the series?

This whole exchange (and seemingly most of mine with you) remind me of the Argument Clinic sketch, but of much lesser quality.

Jeez... Some of you guys are so hateful and jaded, you see the bad where there isn't any.  It was meant to be inspirational. To read more into it shows that you must lead a sad life: Doubting everything and enjoying nothing.

So you're ok with being lied to as long as you feel all warm and fuzzy while it's happening?

Which story are you going with? That the ad "campaign is about the Chrysler 200" and "There is nothing in the ads clearly stating that it is about anything else" or that the ad is about Chrysler in general? You're saying two different things and trying to convince me they're the same. It's not working...

Actually, nevermind. I don't want to hear it... Waste of time.

$10 million for 2 minutes?  Whether it branded, repositioned, inspired, or even thanked Obama, it was meant to sell cars. ;)

What is Chrysler supposed to do? Keep all there plants in the US while the other car company's go off shore for cheaper manufacturing costs? They have to do what ever is necessary to be competitive and stay in business. Going off shore has happened through out our entire manufacturing base. We don't make anything here in the good ol USA any more except hot dogs and hamburgers. I consider Canada and Mexico close enough to qualify as "made in America".

And I like the new Fiat 500. Cute little car, although I wouldn't be caught dead in one, for that very reason.

We COULD build more things in this country if there wasn't such a zealous environmental influence. If you choke a business with excessive regulation to the point of them no longer being profitable, what choice do they have?

nvrbdn

how much profit is needed to decide you have made a profit?the industries, companys, business's used to run in order to make a living and employ people so they can make a living also. then the ceo's decided that they should be able to make rediculous money and bonus. the corporate world decided that the only way to keep these people (no matter how bad things are) is to up the ante.they will cut blue collar to the bone and add to the average work load to butter the bread of the chosen few. then when things get tight again, they cry legacy costs are holding them back, spitting on the aged work force that gave their lives to those companies just to earn a measly retirement check.then they get in cahoots with the government and cry, we dont have the money to take care of these people. so the government steps in and takes over the pensions dumping them into the PBGC and cuts them in half. corporate greed kills business's and steals the taxpayers money in bailouts.
