Anyone done soda blasting ?

 You can buy a "kit" to add on to your sandblaster for about $150 to soda blast. Has anyone done this with what kind of results ? Also can you sweep this stuff up and use it again or is it a one shot material ? thanks,

I've done it.

It does a very good job of removing paint with no profile or surface distortion like from sandblasting. The soda bicarbonate cannot be reused. Also the surface needs to be thoroughly cleaned after because the soda leaves a slight residue behind that will cause adhesion problems if not removed.

Soda will take the paint off down to a smooth bare metal finish. It won't however do much for any corrosion, rust or body filler. That will hold to be done the old flashed way (grinding, sanding and cutting) or with a sand blaster.

Just make sure after you are done you wash the car thoroughly with soap and water, blow it dry and apply a coat of something to prevent flash rust.

I bought one of those conversion kits from Eastwood, kept clogging up, no instructions on how to use.

Al, look into getting the car media blasted. I've been stripping the paint off my 68 with a stripping pad (see link below). To expedite things I'm bringing the doors, hood, trunk lid, and fenders to a shop that does media blasting. He quoted me $120-150. per piece over the phone but when he saw the 68 doors he said, "Oh yeah 2nd gen Charger one of my favorites". Ended up charging me $90.00/door.

DC_1. What size tip are you using for the soda blasting??

I heard if you do soda blast use warm water when you wipe it down. It evaporates quicker which helps with the flash rust.

Has good reviews so it might be worth a try. I would run a water trap prior to the soda blaster one, once you get that soda wet it will clog up on you.
You must neutralize soda with vinegar water solution. It's pretty messy that's why I don't mess with it.

Blasted with Black Beauty/Diamond (fine grit) followed by a quick pass with 80 grit on a power sander to knock down the profile a bit.  Wipe with prep solv and shoot epoxy primer.
Soda is too gentle, you'll be leaving stuff behind that you need to strip away.
