Someone was telling me today that Volo have this thing.  True or bs and if they do does that mean its for sale?  (and no, I dont want it Im just asking)

no318

I have seen it in a private collection in Nebraska (probably 1 1/2-2 years ago).  There may be more than one.

Ghoste

There is a replica or two out there but there is only one that was actually used for the show.

The owner said it was real and not a clone.  If I recall it had a Ford engine in it.  Blower was all for looks and not functional.

Ghoste

The original did have a Ford smallblock.  So there is a chance that this Volo story is just that, a story.

That's not the original.

Musicman

This is the original (with & without the stone)

Ghoste

Did the stone turn up for the movie?

Musicman

The original Marble stone was always there with the legend Born 1367-Died ?, but the little plate that sat between the lights with the same inscription was an add-on, maybe just for pictures???

Either way, I did find this...

This car was sold at the closeout auction of the Chicago Historical Antique Automobile Museum in Highland Park, Il. in 1985.
The original car was housed in a Planet Hollywood in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where it hung from the ceiling. This Planet Hollywood location is now closed according to Planet Hollywood's website. The car is now housed at the Volo Auto museum in the town of Volo,IL. 1 hour north of Chicago. Volo Auto Museum had the car completely restored in 2011.

Interesting...Here is a link to some closer pics of it hanging in the restaurant.

I agree. All those cars bring back a lot of memories as a kid thumbing through the magazines and building the models. Very cool stuff.  :2thumbs:

Personally Volo is Full of Sh*t! That is not the original Dragula as Barris has it in his Calif showroom/buisness. Volo also said they had an original "Christine" 58 Plymouth Fury which was inspected and bogus. The Volo loves to mislead potential buyer's it seems.

I will agree that Dragula is really cool, wish I had a clone....

I would hope that this is the case here... never been to Barris's shop myself, but it has to be Cool!

Ghoste

Volo being involved are exactly why I asked the question in the first place.  They aren't exactly known for their honesty in every case.

skip68

They (Volo) are not honest in my opinion.  I delt with them over the BK auto crap.  I believe that Dragula car was built by BK auto.

i know i've looked at a couple cars on volo's website and thought 'that isn't right' their 'Corvette Summer' car was an obvious knock off. then again, Barris hasn't been above making copies of his earlier work, and even building replicas that have been (allegedly) past off as real thing. (he suddenly gets credit for creating Knight Rider KITT, but he only 'created' a replica).

Ghoste

Barris would take credit for and autograph the Statue of Liberty if he got close to it.
