Gearhead movies they should remake and the ones they ruined...

I would just like to know what everyone thinks about this topic. I tried watching the more recent Dukes of Hazzard because that charget is sexy but I couldn't get past the opening credits.

Generally I find they shouldn't remake any and they ruined them all.  They arguably did a better job with Gone In 60 Seconds but most of the time, it was right the first time.
Perhaps my other reason for saying this is my strongly held opinion that they need to STOP doing rmakes of every boomer image and icon no matter how flimsy the original was just for the sake of tying to something that is at least partially pre-sold.  Take a chance Hollywood, be original.
The same goes for endless sequels.  Enough already.  If F&F was meant to go on and on you could make it a syndicated series on tv.  Make it into another of those fake reality shows.

I also agree with you on the Gone in 60 Seconds being a good remake. Well I have not seen the original but i heard it was better. As for the F&F series, I always enjoyed them. Yes they need to stop now but growing up it was more seeing what was out there and how people took a similar item and made it their own. While ruining it at the same time because ricers are stupid. Vin Diesel was the only one who knew the right cars to drive.

i agree not to remake the old films. they always feel the need to add todays touch which changes the movie. ha ha, i wonder how "grand thieft auto" would turn out? :shruggy:

Grand Theft Auto would probably be based more on that horrible video game.

See, what people can't seem to get their head around is the fact that all of the "So-called" Classics today were complete tanks when they came out. i can all but bet that most had the same "Bandwagon" statements about DMCL, VP, Easy Rider, Gone In 60 Seconds, etc. when they all came out. They were about no basic plot at all, very poor acting by mostly newbies to the silver screen, yet 30-40 years later, they are considered classics.

I feel the F&F movies will be considered cult classics in 25-30 years because of the musclecars.
I also feel remakes will almost NEVER do the original justice. Better off to do a sequel/prequel type thing.
To complain that a remake didn't do your favorite movie justice is about the same thing as sticking your hand in a snake pit and expecting not to get bitten. Never gonna happen.

At least the silver screen has finally realized that it's the classic Detroit iron that brings in the ricers as well as the old skoolers.

On the other hand, if Hollyweird tried to bring out a basic car guy movie with an actual story line, it too would tank as you and I would be the only ones in the audience. Remember the Vanishing Point remake in 1997? I thought it was as good as the original, but better in the storyline dept. Lots of folks didn't because today's movie going public could care less as long as there's some bimbo's t*ts hanging out, gettin' banged in full view, a cussword ever other word, lots of NOS (Pronounced NOS, instead of N....O.....S), and the ricer type cars with those stupid grapefruit launcher exhaust pipes.

I'm not talking about remakes of my favorites, I think I pretty much lambasted them all.  For example, I didn't like the Brady Bunch when it was new, didn't get any better when it became a movie.  The list goes on and on for me where remakes are concerned.

I agree that most of the movie remakes or TV shows turned into movies have not been the best.  I did however think that the latest A-TEAM was done well and the Italian Job.   :2thumbs: :coolgleamA:

I think I am too young. I didn't realize there was an original green hornet. But yes that movie was bad.

Dave, you're 100% right, it was awful. I gave it a shot since it was on HBO recently & I think I lasted 15 minutes with it before I decided that the infomercial with the woman wearing spandex for some salt shaker exercise machine was more entertaining.  :D

Vanishing Point - Killed it.

I liked both Gone in 60 seconds. What Toby did (everything) in the original was pretty darned cool.

I hadn't heard about the Bandit TV show either.....
I've wondered why there was no Vanishing Point remake once the new Challengers came out. The 1997 version with Viggo was annoying. He mumbles too much and had minimal charisma. The stunts were minimal. ONE jump? He cleared maybe 2 1/2 feet. I've done better and driven away damage free.
The 2005 DUKES movie had the best car stunts of any modern movie. DRIFTING that Charger on the wet roundabout while other cars were pacing alongside? AMAZING! I think that regarding the PLOT though..... I didn't like how they reversed the comic interaction of Boss Hogg and Rosco. TV had it right. The Dukes had some humorous moments but Boss and Rosco provided the laughs. Burt Beynolds is about as funny as a rubber crutch, so there was no way a traditional version true to the series could have been done with Burt.
The 2000 remake of GONE was a remarkable improvement in terms of acting and scene continuity. The Mustang jump on the bridge was a pathetic joke though. A crayola drawing displays the same level of scene quality as the CGI did.

I agree the  Gone in 60 remake is pretty good but I have to say, in my opinion, the car chase from the original version is heaps better.
