100 MPG on a V8 in 1978 ?? Interesting read

Well, I obviously wouldn't expect 50 mpg out of a 2 ton car; but hey - is 28-30 mpg out of the realm of possibility - maybe now but what about in the next 10 years ? 

It's in the 22-35 mpg range now with bigger cars and trucks. A friend of mine has a new Ram V8 that gets 23-24 mpg. Corvettes can get up to 26 mpg on the highway now and VW is talking up to 43 mpg in the new Passat.
