Spent 14 years in that lousy, heat-stroke, mosquito-infested redneck square above Louisiana.  Hot Springs was about 8 of those.  There is a REASON I live in Seattle now...

100+ in August, low 20's in January, economy SUCKS, no "culture"... the State of Arkansas has lost population since my family moved there in '83.

So what did they do, chase everyone out? They want the state for themselves? You must have a pretty bad @$$ family to chase people out of an entire state?    ;D

Silver,

I was stationed in Litle Rock for over nine years, and I loved it.  Since we moved here to the Florida panhandle back in May, Monique and I never realized how good we had it in Arkansas.  We were very spoiled in the suburbs of Little Rock, with a brand new two story house on a cul-de-sac in a very well-to-do neighborhood.  We've had to take a "step down" since coming to Florida.

TK must have had bad things happen to him in central Arkansas, to say those things.  Believe me, after experiencing the good people of central Arkansas, the very respectable housing market, and all of what Arkansas has to offer for outdoor recreation (mountain bikings best kept secret), we verrrrrrry much miss Arkansas.

Before I left that great state, I got the opportunity to briefly speak with Governor Mike Huckabee and his secretary.  I told him how proud I was to live in such a great state and that I will miss it very much.  After experiencing the kinds of backward arse people we've run into down here in the Florida panhandle (referred to as "lower Alabama"), and the outrageously expensive housing market here- Arkansas is a far, far better place.  Especially in the Hot Springs and Little Rock areas.

Granted, the real estate market in Hot Springs is quite high, due to the fact that it's a resort area.  The summers have not been as hot as in years past.  In fact, the summer of '04 was the mildest on record, as the temperature never got above 98*.  I think the average that year was around 82 or 84- which was very nice.

If you have any more questions about central Arkansas, don't hesitate to PM me and I will try to answer them.

   Good luck,

Mark Martin and a group of investors are working on a plan to build a Nascar track and a 1/4 mile dragstrip there in the near future. That place is growing like crazy. There's a guy near there that has three warehouses full of nothing but hemi cars and six pack cars. He even had 3 superbirds when I was there last summer. There's another guy a few miles down the road that has a building full of cudas, hemi cars and six pack cars. I'm restoring a 67 hemi 4 speed GTX for him now. There's even a guy that lives there that has a warehouse full of big block mustangs. Now the guy's starting to collect cudas. He bought one of my 71 cudas about a year ago. I've heard of two other warehouse full of high dollar cars being htere in Hot Springs. There are more muscle cars in that area than just about any other area that I know of. And, it doesn't rain all of the da*n time like some places. I drove by a guys house north of Hot Springs a few months ago and he had about five 69 and 70 chargers in the back yard, all complete. Didn't have time to stop. I plan to go back by there when I get time.
I live about 1 1/2 hours away and enjoy going down and hanging out at Oaklawn to watch the horse races. I always win a little money there. I've bought several mopars around there in the last few years and they don't usually have much rust if any. Unfortunately, there's a lot of yankees starting to move down there for retirement. That means a bunch of old people driving around in caddies and lincolns with their left turn signals on all of the time.  ;D

BTW, the average daytime temp there this month (January) has been in the mid 60's and last summer was mid to high 80's. I love it here in Arkansas and misquitos seem to hate people from up north for some reason.

Humidity is a little on the high side, averages about 70%, but you really do get used to it after a while. I lived in Houston for 3 years and coming back to Arkansas was kind of nice. Don't get me wrong. I like Houston though, just a little too much humidity sometimes.
Job market is getting better, but it's still a little behind most larger areas. Really depends on your area of expertise I guess. Overall, it's a growing area that seems to be getting better and better. One of the nice things is the lakes in the area. Ouchita is a big beautiful lake and we love to go jet skiing there. There's conoeing, mountain climbing and all of the other things that you would expect from living in the Ouchita mountains. Overall, it's not a backwoods rural setting like you might expect. The crime rate is low and the people are pretty nice. You can drive just a few miles to Murfreesboro and look for diamonds, and I mean real diamonds.

Silver is there ever a reason for many of your threads? Do you just get a kick out of starting a thread and then not opening it up again? Just curious. What was your reason for asking about Arkansas anyways?

Silver R/T

Im researching this for personal reasons. What thread I open and 'never open it up again'?
Let me ask you this, is this a personal attack or ... you just dont feel so good today and you feel like picking on someone on here. As far as opening threads Im WAY low on starting threads, according ot forum statistics
