383 4 speed. Why? Well, the 383 would be easier to swap out for the 440 than an automatic for a 4 speed.  :D

440 auto for me. I'd swap the valve body to a reverse pattern manual valve body, oops I already did that on mine.    :icon_smile_big:
MOPAR OR NO CAR !!

Give me a 4 speed. Then again of the cars I like the only way to get them in a 4 speed was with a 440 or a Hemi.

flyinlow

440 with a 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual.

What's a 383?

I am old enough to have driven both and also rode in both types when they were new (yeah, I am an old f...t). My Marine Corps friend, when I returned from an extended stay in Vietnam with the Marine Corps myself, had a 1968 red/orange regular Charger with a 383 4spd and it was pretty quick and a lot of fun to drive as he let me use it fom time to time. I had a 1968 Triumph Bonneville I let him use from time to time too !
He decided to go back to Vietnam for his 3rd tour and was going to take the car to San Antonio to leave with his parents while he was gone.He had served his first two tours there as a grunt and had a couple of bullethole scars to show for it. This time he was going back as an airwinger and subjected to a little less hazardous duty. Ha, I returned in May 1968 and was an airwinger but did not tell him he could end up like me, in a Helicopter outfit as a doorgunner and subjected to incoming almost every day !!

Anyway, about 3 weeks before he was to go home on leave before going back to Vietnam, he shows up with a B5 Blue 1969 Charger R/T auto ! Just stopped by the dealership and they talked him into trading in his 1968 for the 1969 R/T It was beautiful with a white interior and stripe and was a lot faster than the 1968. I got to drive it a couple of times before he left and it was a real screamer!

Long story short............ I will take a 440/auto every time.

P.S. I never heard from him after he left and do not know what happened to the car he took to his parents home !!

Wow, I am surprised by the results so far.  Eating a lot of crow here Bull.

A lot? A difference of eight votes after 60 counted doesn't seem like a landslide to me. We'll wait until Florida is finished counting and see what the electoral college decides. :nana:

The auto would be nice but you just can't pass up a muscle car that has a stick instead of a girly-matic!   :nana:

I gotta have an auto to drink coffee, eat burgers, smoke, change CD's, flip off idiot drivers, adjust sunglasses, read magazines and put on lipstick...

Now, now, I made up a cup holder for my charger that slides in between the window glass and the door pad so that frees up my dunkin!     As for idiot drivers, how often are you shifting gears?  I usually get through the gears as fast as possible, this way the only see the tail lights.     As for CD's, who needs em?  I have a MP3 in my charger.  Regarding the lipstick...... you're on your own there!   :smilielol:

Speaking of chads, where's Chad L. Magee? I think he's got both cars but I don't know that he's driven either of them.

There's too many old farts in this election complaining about how much work they have to do shifting gears. I'm going to claim election fraud (unless it goes my way).

Its still close enough for me to call it in your favor.  I thought there would be a huge majority opting for the auto and not because of trans preference but because of wanting the bigger engine and the RT package over the base Charger with a four speed.  It started with the rare doesn't always equal desirable thing but there is a reason there are fewer 383 four speed Chargers than automatic equipped RT's.

Oh, well, if you might still call it in my favor I won't complain. :D :D

Ok, so what IS the reason why there are fewer 383 4 spd vs auto equipped rt's?   Inquiring minds want to know  :scratchchin:
