This is really a spin off from another thread but the answer interests me.

All else being equal, with a 2nd gen Charger would your prefer a 383 four speed car or an RT 440 with an automatic.

Troy

A 318 car to make into whatever I want? :D I tend to want to preserve the rare cars so I drive my base models a whole lot more.

I've had a 440 R/T and currently have a 440 4-speed R/T but never owned a 383 4-speed so I suppose that's my answer. I think I'd like driving a 383 4-speed though. Unlike "the good ol' days" the insurance isn't much of a factor. Price may be.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

charger_fan_4ever

R/T Auto would be my choice. If it was a non r/t car like Troy said build it like you want it. Stroker, 5 speed ect.

I thought either you or Bull would start this thread.  ;)

Put me in the 383 4-speed column.  :yesnod:  You can still get into a lot of trouble with the go pedal with a 383....  :icon_smile_wink:

440 4speed :drool5: But a 383 4 speed will do :yesnod: That is just more fun then a automatic

The auto would be nice but you just can't pass up a muscle car that has a stick instead of a girly-matic!   :nana:

Agreed... the stick is a lot more fun and you're not giving away all that much on usable street-driving power.  Go further on a tank too...

I guess I'm just a snob then.  I prefer the extra cachet of the RT.

I could.
I have no interest in a 4 spd car

resq302

If you really wanted the stuff that an R/T offered, you could have gotten them individually and installed.  Hell, my 69 charger 383 4 bbl 4 spd has a console, tic toc tach and factory power disc brakes!  It even had the hemi leaf springs when I got the car.  If you are that worried about handling and power, its all easy bolt on stuff.  Plus there are even some nice builds that you can do to the 383. Just ask Ron!

The only time I could agree with you Bill is when I am stuck in traffic and that clutch pedal gets tiring really fast!

Other than the 57 extra cubes and the "S" in the second spot on the VIN.

440+4speed. Best of both worlds. 383 has less crank than a 350 chevy.

Not an option, youngster.  ;)  A 383 with a 4-speed  or  a 440 auto.

383 4 speed. Why? Well, the 383 would be easier to swap out for the 440 than an automatic for a 4 speed.  :D
