I am looking down the road to when the bodywork on my 69 Charger gets done and I enter the painting phase.  I've been thinking about PPG Deltron 2000.  Their DBC is a base/clear which would be used on the outside.  The DBI is a single stage that would be used in the engine compartment, trunk, underneath, and in the interior.  The PPG dealer told me that they do not have a exact match for the 69 R4 Charger Red in their Deltron 2000 which is their best paint---only an alternate.  He said that they have exact matches for pretty much all modern colors in this product.  I'm starting to think that if I can't get the exact thing that maybe I should consider a modern red.  I've seen some nice looking relatively new red Dodge trucks-----I'm thinking a bright red.  I've also seen some nice reds on newer VW bugs and some other cars.  Anybody have any experience chasing this 69 R4 red?  What did you do?  Been trying to keep a stock appearance where practicable.

I plan on getting the car media blasted.  Any suggestions on the priming?  I want to get the rust work done and the dents hammered out first.  Then blast the car with plastic media and immediately paint it with DP40LF expoxy primer and possibly a primer sealer.  The car would then go back to the body man for blocking before final paint.  Does this approach sound correct?

Finally-----were Dodge Chargers painted underneath from the factory?  I don't plan on undercoating my car except in the wheel wells.

Sounds good, getting the car blasted and putting it in DPLF,just be carefull what you use for primer on top of that, because PPG NCP271 is not recommended to be put on over epoxy.
On your paint choice, just me,but why would you want to use BC/CC for a solid color? Usually I only do BC/CC when doing metalics, solid colors I use DCC Concept single stage.Would make it easier for you or whoever paints it.Less solvent on the car also, makes for less tightening from the solvent.
NTM,you do the eng bay, bottom, inside of trunk with single stage and the outside with BC/CC,its gonna look different.I'd want the same product all the way thru.

Does PPG offer this color in their DBU basecoat line? It's an activated basecoat, but has great coverage. You have your choice of clears to put over it.
Gotta say, the PPG 2002 clear is incredible stuff. (Paul's recommendation again, Paul I think you are a PPG secret service rep!!  :smilielol: )

You could do the underhood/jambs in B/C, and the underneath in single stage if you plan on painting under there. I did my underside in Omni (PPG's cheap line), which was garbage. Looking back I should have used something from their higher line in single stage for underneath.
Just another option.

You better go with SPI epoxy it's cheaper than PPG, has outstanding customer service and is a great product (Made in USA too)
