OK recently my choke has been slowly choking itself at idle. So I thought maybe its just needs a good adjusting so I adjusted it and it worked just fine for the day. Next day go to start it and after it warmed up still was doing the same thing. I replaced the choke with a new one and it worked for the day, next day rolls by and same thing still dying out. So everytime it is adjusted it works for the day and the next day its doing the same thing. Ive done this 5 or 6 times and I'm puzzled why it won't stay at idle without slowly dying... any ideas??? :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy: :'(

Check the voltage at the choke when you fire it up. Are you getting 12 volts?

There is a vacuum piston inside the choke unit that pulls the choke open against the pressure of the coiled spring inside. If the piston seal is bad or the spring is adjusted too tight the piston won't be able to pull the choke open.

Are you adjusting the spring when dead cold to the recommended tension?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Unhook the wiring, remove the flap or just get it permantly hooked open...you live in CA you dont need a choke, heck im in NY and dont need one, Ron in Canada dosnt need one. It takes a bit of knowing the car for those cold morning starts, but all you need to do is feather the throttle for a bit and shell run on her own just fine. Ive started my car in freezing temps, no choke and never is a problem.

Choke is a convenience, but not a requirement..plus youll gain a few CFM's on the top end with the flap removed.

OK got her fixed. I had a friend come out and give it a look and I was getting a random short. I only had one of those continuity lights and not a volt meter so for all I knew was it had power but I guess not enough and it was stumping me.
