I found a 3rd gen model (72) and the guy saids its matching numbers 400 with a manual shift. Im curous how rare it is to find one with manaul?

Guy wants to sell for 7k.

how much could I offer him? It has a dent on passenger side wheel well area among other things he took off the vinyl top and looksl ike crap up there since he didnt sand it down.  Never rebuilt engine or tranny, but claims good compression.

Tilar

It's hard to tell without pics, but from the description I'd say 7k was a bit high.

gotcha here it is i he updated with pics:

I was thinking of buying it just because its a manaul and offer him 4k based on the fact the engine might need a rebuild and tranny too among other things I dont know.

If its as clean as it looks with no major accidents, rust, or covered in bondo than 7k negotiable is a very fair price. Assuming all it needs is some minor body work and paint.

Dont "offer" him 4k...best way to buy a car is to go there with cash (the most you want to spend, id say go with 5k if you can, in case its a very solid clean car) look at the car first, if its what you want than take 4k out of your pocket and see what he says. When they have money in hand people tend to be much more willing to sell

there some dents here and there it seems based on the pics I didnt think it was that clean looking?

FLG

I dont think dents are an issue, especially the one on the quarter, from the looks of it removing the inner rear panel and you could pop that right back out. As long as the car isnt crunched dings and dents are much easier to fix than rust and bondo. Also in terms of clean, look at the body lines, pics are small but even so the lines look crisp and sharp, paint might not be very good but it dosnt appear the car was molested and slapped together with bondo.

Id be much happier with a dented and dingged rust free car, than a car that has "nice" paint but was slapped together with some bondo and sprayed over in order to look good for the unsuspecting buyer.

All in all the car looks to have been (at least from the outside) not messed with or thrown together.

Also the hood may or may not be origional, it appears to be a 73 hood but it could be a late model and thats the hood they put on there (ma mopar does some funny things sometimes) but it dosnt look like theres hood pins in the holes so id guess to say its non orig but its hard to tell from such small pics.

OOOOH, I like  :2thumbs:

Me too.  5K would be a fair price.  4K would be a good deal on your part.

definately some dings to fix, but if the mechanical is good, and the underneath is in good shape, that could be a nice find.in the one pic the trunk isnt down all the way, but never see the back of the car so it may just be open. let us know how it goes. :2thumbs:

I like a WIW as much as (or more?) the next guy, but it seems that we've failed to answer the original question, and as I'm a manual-shift enthusiast, I'm curious.

How rare is it to find a factory 4-speed on a third-gen?  They seem to be more common on second-gens, but that's all just based on my impressions and anecdotal evidence.  I'd be curious to see production figures or registry figures, if any exist.

If you buy the car Ill trade you hoods lol
I came here to kick ass and chew bubble gum, but I'm all out of bubble gum.

I like your hood maybe Im gonna see if I can look at today and then decide for next week? No rush to buy it just for the manual i wold convert my current one to a tremec one instead of I was that desperate, but if it is a matching numbers car thta would be nice to get it for 4k my max is close to that cant fork over 7k for this.

1974dodgecharger

guy wont budge he got it 'appraised' by a professional and that person told him this car is collectors items and worth 7k PLUS on the open market. He said he will be nice and budge for me at 6500 told him I was on a limited budget and I gave him a 'figure' of my budget for his car.

Didnt think he liked it and told him to contact me if he wanted to still sell at my price if it does not sell since he seemed desperate.

Chryco Psycho

From experience his price is too high , I have a 72 Charger rust free & fully restored & converted to look like the 71 with R/T hoot & tailights , 440 4 spd pistol , Ralley guages wth tach, 50K + invested & so far the best real offer I have had on the car is 7 k , I am not willing to sell that low but over 20K & we can discuss it !! If he can get 7 for his have him sell mine also !

FLG

Chryco..want to trade for an 87 bmw 325is ready for auto cross? Lol jk but of you still have it in the next few years maybe after my chargers done I'll take it off your hands...at 23 im barely able to keep up with 2 cars.

greymag

Probably not that many made. I think Allpar listed some numbers. Still, 73, 74 are not highly sought after. Add up what it would cost to make it look right. 5000.00? paint and body, 650.00 parts alone to replace springs & torsion bars, interior?, tires, wheels? Once it goes over 15,000.00 you have gone over the street value. Plus, you haven't verified engine/tranny yet. In the coming years, who knows? I have more than 15,000.00 in mine & figure to never recoup. So I keep it cuz it's looks good.

WOW  50k thats some LOVIN right there  :2thumbs: and someone offered you ONLY 7k!!!!  Man I understand you lose value on cars what you put into them, but not that much. Yeah at 50k invested I personally would have offere dyou 20k plus for it (if I had the money of course).

greymag,
Yeah thats what I told him that I dont know how healthy the engine is overall internally and tranny I told him most folks by now have the tranny rebuilt or engine at least once (based on my experience) and he said that this is a 400ci engine these are POWERFUL were his words both tranny and engine are running awesome.

TruckDriver

If that is a Charger Rallye coupe, then there ws only 111 made with a 400 & 4spd. The serial number would start with WL21P3

If it's a Charger Rallye hardtop, then there was 2,020 made with the 400 & 4spd combo. The serial number would start with WH23P3

But $5k or $6k wouldn't be a terrible price to pay. Just my opinion.
