I am installing the hardware in the final push to get the 68 Charger running for the first time in years and cannot find a good reference picture as to where to route the high pressure power steering hose from a Saginaw Pump. Does it somehow go under the battery tray. Any good pictures will be helpful. I have looked for hours and cannot seem to find what I am looking for. Thanks

Oops. I meant to say Saginaw not Federal. It is for a 68 and hose looks like it is the the original one.

This the hose that is currently in the car. How does it route in the engine compartment and is it even the correct hose?

Click the link I posted above & look at the picture I posted as well....that is the correct hose

terrible one

Here's a couple pictures of mine:

The hose Just 6T9 CHGR showed you is what you need. GATES # 352830, $16.69 on Rockauto.com if you don't need it to be completely correct.

I dont want to sound completely ignorant but I might anyways. I am getting conflicting information regarding the correct power steering pump and the lines. When I look on ebay for example it show the power steering line and Saginaw pumps that I currently have that I was just trying to figure out routing for. In doing some reading last night the 68 Chargers were different than the 69's but am being told that all 68 big blocks had the Federal pumps and not the Saginaw with the oval head. The pictures of the lines I am receiving information on are for 69's. I am being told that I have the wrong pump and lines altogether. Can someone help clear up the mystery.

My understanding is that 68s only came equipped with federal or TRW power steering pumps.  The TRWs are the rarer of the two.  The saginaws came in sometime during the 1969 production run (not completely sure if that's right)...

If it's important for you to look and be original, I'd go with the federal pump as the parts and services (rebuilds etc.) are a little easier to come by.   :Twocents:    There's no way anyone will know its not original if the car originally had a TRW in it off the line as MA MOPAR just installed whichever pump was in stock that day and there's no identification (VIN, fender tag, build sheets etc) that will tell you otherwise.  I don't believe anyone is rebuilding the TRW pumps anymore.  If originality is not important, you may want to stick with what you've got.  From what I've heard, the saginaws are better pumps... they're more reliable and quite easy to come by and service.

If you do decide to switch back to a federal or TRW pump, you'll have to get the related mounting brackets and hoses to go with them.  As mentioned previously, hoses, brackets and pumps themselves for the TRW will be hard to find...

For what its worth my friend...

Thanks for the information on the pump. I will probably hunt down a Federal pump and brackets and go that way seeing as that seems to be the more common configuration and no one would know the difference. Now back to the question of the power steering hose routing. The hoses from the 68 are in fact different that the 69's and everywhere I look eBay and some of the Mopar parts places show the hose that I have. Can someone post a picture of a correct 68 hose and let me know how it is routed.

The hose routing will actually be different for the different pumps within a production year.  I have a TRW pump for a '68... I can take a picture of that and post it up, but if you want the routing for a federal pump, it may be different...

Problem solved. I was able to find the correct Federal pump and it all made sense finally.
