I have 1969 Dodge Charger it has a 383, 727 Auto.

When I get up to about 30 mph it wants to act like it is not getting fuel and sputters. It is worse if I get down on the gas, if I slowly move up to speed it sometimes is not as bad.

Any Help?

how old, or how many miles on the motor? not trying to take anything away from the thought of fuel, but a worn/stretched timing chain can act the same way. dog under acceleration and at faster speeds, but slow gradual acceleration can run smooth. just a thought.

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what you're getting.  Should be around 7psi.

What carburetor are you using?

I had the identical symptoms with those crap, defective vapor separator's....so I vote some kind of fuel issue as well

I have this problem with my 383 4 bbl 4 spd mostly when I try and floor it from either a dead stop or cruising along trying to pass someone.  The carb bogs, sputters, and then tries to backfire once and then takes off like a shot.  Ive come to find that it is the crappy factory Carter AVS and no matter what I do, be it rebuild or what, it still does it.  Now, like someone said, it could be something with a worn distributor gear or excessive play in the shaft or something to do with timing like a stretched timing chain.

I would first check your fuel delivery and see how much pressure you have, how much fuel is being delivered (is it enough), and also double check your float levels.  After that I would double check your timing or vacuum advance if you have it hooked up.  My vac. advance has been disconnected and I am only using mechanical weights to advance the dist.
