Hi I am working on a 69 Hemi Charger 500. I need the differential section for the 8 3/4 and have located a couple but don't know which is correct 489 or 742 ? The fender tag shows A36 so I think the 8 3/4 is correct, TIA John

All 68-71 Hemi cars had Dana 60's, almost always, if its a real 69 Hemi Charger 500, if it is a Dana 60, it will have a pan on the rear, if it's a 8-3/4" rear from 1969 it would be a 489 case/drop out section Hemi or not...

Only the 440/Hemi 4-speed cars got a Dana, it was optional on automatic cars.

A '69 with an 8 3/4" would have the 489.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Thanks for the quick replies, the car is the real deal and has an automatic so I am sure on the 8 3/4 part and will go with the 489 case.  :2thumbs:

Thats kind of what I was thinking too, but I wonder how many 69 Charger 500's actually came with a Hemi & and a 8-3/4" rear axle & a 727 automatic trans ?

I'd say the vast majority came with the 8 3/4".

I believe you, but you would think if your paying the extra $850, for the Hemi option, the minor extra cash for a Dana would have been a no brainer... I wonder what the production #'s were

A36 = 3.55, 8-3/4 with Sure Grip, 7 blade fan with torque drive (070 clutch) max cooling.

A32 would have got you a 4.10 Dana with the automatic.

I have the same option (A36) on a Hemi Challenger.

My Hemicharger came with an 8 3/4 rearend, 3.23 gear ratio, suregrip, and a 727 auto The suregrip actually was an extra cost item. I am not sure but I think all else was standard equipment.
