This Challenger was a Tan 383 2 bbl. car, we got it with the 440 having problems. The previous owner made a nice black R/T clone out of it, rallye dash, rallye hood, built '68 440, 727 auto w/ the new auto Pistol grip, 3.23 sure grip, new gas tank, new interior, etc.

  When we bought it, the 440 ran but had very little oil pressure from a push rod shoved through the rocker arm. After a new rocker and a new oil pump it ran good for six months, but before X-mas, it finally shot the main bearings. They went ka-put.

During X-mas the 440 was bored to 0.40 over, 9.4 to 1 pistons, 480 cam, rebuilt 906 heads, balanced, etc., and a new set of $780 1 7/8 TTI headers. Anyway here's some pics...

I cleaned up the steering gear and the brake lines while I was in there.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Ya it's 0 balanced, and was set up with the camshaft degree wheel. The new camshaft has the same 480 specs as the old one, I didn't want to mess with the converter.    Dude.

It's been running great for 2 weeks, no problems, no leaks, and it fired off on the first click. I'm not that good, I just got lucky this time. My resto partner has put 500 miles on it already. I can't seperate him from it, his girlfriend thinks he likes the car more than her. And of course he turned down a $30,000 offer, this Challenger has a Ca. Salvage title and it was a 383 2 bbl. car, and he won't sell for 30k :shruggy:

very cool. i've been thinking about a challenger in my future. there cool cars and in black they look tough.

I'm thinking down the road we might trade this turn key car for a nice complete real V code 4 speed Challenger project & cash, if that's a possibility.  Now that "Stupid money" has broken out at the BJ auction, my resto business partner said no way to 30k, last nights 2 million dollar 'Cuda made him say 45k minimum. This is nuts.
