Whats the deal on the disc brake positioners ?

Here's what Rick Ehrenberg has to say about the positioners: (Mopar Action Feb. 2012 page 93)

"The "positioners" as used on the early setup are hard to find, and really increase friction...pretty lousy setup. A bit of rattle means near-zero friction".

In a previous article he recommended changing over to the later 5" pins and their rubber grommets, eliminating the positioners and all the anti-rattle hardware.
