How often do you go to the movies?

I must've seen this on the news or something.  Theaters are complaining that netflix and downloads to ipads and such are killing their profits but it made me think about all the fun I had in theaters...not a lot!  Not only is it hard enough to find a decent movie these days but the cost of tickets and especially snacks is getting a bit out of control.  Add to it that you risk having a bunch of annoying people around you and it makes for a pretty crappy experience.

Even as a kid I rarely enjoyed it.  The big screen and sound was always nice and sometimes you'd go and have the theater to yourself which was always a treat, but honestly there's much more cons than pros for me.

I guess my parents spoiled me by taking me to the drive ins as a kid, nothing quite like it.

How do you guys feel?

I'm with Al...... Once people stated becoming obnoxious and noisy in the theaters, it was all over for me.  I can only wonder what it's like today with all the electronic gadgets that are permanently attached to people....

I love going but don't go as often as I used to for many reasons. Amazingly, obnoxious people wasn't one of the top reasons, it was lack of time & my wife isn't a movie person. She'd get bored & fall asleep in the theater so it wasn't really worth taking her to a movie. I think we may have gone together to less than 10 movies since 1985. Prices got high, but but some were still worth seeing on the big screen. We go more often now because of our daughter & recently saw "Tower Heist" which was very good, & "The Adventures of Tintin" which was 3D & also decent.

Used to go to a movie 2 or 3 times a month, but now it might be 4 or 5 times a year.

Here, we have theaters that serve you food and buckets of beer.  I'll make it there one or two times a month.  Haven't been to a conventional theater in years.

I hardly ever go to the movies, mostly because its really not an activity that's high on my priority list with the limited amount of free time that I have. I'm trying to think, but I'm pretty sure the only movie I saw in theaters in all of 2011 was Fast 5, and that's because it was a free car related event.

It's actually a lot better now than it used to be, at least from my experience.

I go out to movies probably 6-8 times a year and more than half of those are at 2nd run theaters. There's a couple of really nice 2nd run theaters nearby. One of them has $3 movies with tables and chairs and waiters that bring you burgers and beer. The other one costs $2.75 and it's brand new with an excellent sound system. There aren't too many movies I'll spend $10 on anymore.

it had been 19 years for me up to about 2 years ago the prices were just to high &you could not watch them again so I just waited for the dvd to come out & pick it up for $5-10 when it was "old"

Last summer, someone arranged a movie night for classic car owners at our one remaining drive in which featured car movies. Wife and I took the Charger which made for nostalgic fun. Other than that, we have a 72" tv and blueray and a 400 watt sound system so, not much point going to the theater anymore.

I go when there's something I want to see on a big screen. Last year, probably 8-9 times.

Less frequently than I would like. I really enjoy going to movies. The overpriced stuff bugs me a bit but if it's a nice stadium type theater then I don't mind too much. Mostly life just gets in the way these days. Too many more important projects and the kids still require a babysitter.

However, if 3D becomes the norm then I will not be going to many movies at all. Too much of a gimmick for me. Gives my boys headaches to boot.

My wife and I stopped going out to catch a movie when they closed down all of the drive-ins. They were the best. You had comfort as well as privacy and you could BYO. Now we watch everything on DVD.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Last one I went to was to see "Avatar". That should tell you something.... :P

Last two movies I went to was Twister and F&F2. I have a very short attention span when it comes to watching any movies or TV. After 30 minutes I feel like I'm wasting my time.

Since one of the theaters started 5 dollar movies my wife and I go more. IF there are any movies worth seeing. And I haven't seen anything that looks like it's worth seeing in a few months.

I agree too. The last movie I saw in the theaters was Star Trek: The Wrath Of Kahn. 1980's? I believe?

I realize I will be hammered on after addmiting what the last movie I saw was but so what. I went and watched the new Dukes of Haz' movie years ago. Yes, as much as I hate the Dukes charger set up, it was my birthday so what the heck. And yes, I cried at the end of the movie, hahaha.... I don't go to go movies anymore, I make them, haha..

The wife and I actually went to see Sherlock Holmes and Mission Imposable III over the past week.  Before those two, we had not been to a movie for a couple years.

That's how it usually goes for me and my wife, we can have quite some time between going to the movies.

So how do you feel about going to the movies now?  What did you like/dislike about it?

Lots of good posts here, it seems much depends on price and environment.  And of course if the movie itself is worth it.

When they restored the original Star Wars movies several years back I did go see them on the gigantic screen and although the theater was packed it was well worth it.  Of course if you're going to be in a crowd of 400 people you can't have it better than to be with nerds.  They simply shut up and drool.   :icon_smile_big:
