Need recommendation for LS1 exhaust

My wife has a 2002 Trans Am WS6 with ram air.  Real nice car, plenty fast but the exhaust is really quiet.  She wants a bit more noise coming out the back but not so much that it gets annoying on longer trips.  I'm thinking we could just swap the muffler and be done with it, or we can get an entire catback system although those are pretty pricey.

Extra power is a bonus but honestly it's fast enough as it is.  We though about headers as well but I don't know if I want to do that swap in my garage and I'm not sure if it's an improvement for a cruiser.

Can anyone recommend a system or muffler for an LS1 engine that gives the car a nice rumble and a good amount of roar at wot but will not drive the occupants mad?

I have true dual magnaflows on my '98 t/a.
Love the way it sounds, it really wakes the sound of the LS6 up

SLP or Kooks. The SLP Loudmouth I is going to be nasty loud but the Loudmouth II still has a pretty healthy rumble but should be tame enough that you won't go insane driving the car. I haven't heard a Kooks on an earlier LS1 but they also tend to be pretty evil in the dB department. Maryland Speed is a great retailer and usually has the best prices...

If I didn't have to sell my '04 GTO (2nd little one on the way) it would be getting a full Kooks system but the family comes first...

Glad I could help. :icon_smile_big:

The magnaflow mufflers should pretty good on those chebbies.

An O pipe huh, yeah that might do something alright  :icon_smile_big:

I was listening to some of the sound clips on the LS1 site and the slp loudmouth, althoug ha nit too loud, did sound pretty nice.  The loudmouth II might indeed be a good bet but maybe still a bit much.

The magnaflows seem to sound pretty decent, I may just get one of those.  Would the muffler alone be ok?  I'd rather not spend the $$$ for an antire catback system to find out we don't really like the sound.  A muffler won't break the bank.

not just a single O pipe, that link was for a dual!  :icon_smile_big:

I'd just take a look at how the mufflers are laid out on those cars, for some reason i'm thinking its a single muffler, dual in, dual out mounts transversely. I may be wrong though. If they make a muffler that fits the factory locations and all, I'd say your in like Flynn!

Haha dual indeed  :icon_smile_big:

Yep it's a single muffler but I have to look up the stock specks for inlet and outlet.  I don't even know what size pipes it has.  I know there's a bunch of mufflers that bolt on, Magnaflow alone has several but I have no idea in what way they are different.

@Dino

I donĀ“t know how much you wanna spend on an Exhaust, but look at this one!!! I think it is the best for an LS1.

Corsa

ZERO resonance --- Awesome sound. Incredible fit and finish.

I looked at both gmmg and corsa but we're not going to spend that much, they don't seem to sell mufflers only for the LS1.  Too bad, they do sound real nice.
