hey guys im putting the tranny back in on sat. im also putting the new c body tie rods in again. i had the tie rods in before but after only a few miles my tires were getting shredded on the outside edges. is there a way i can get them at least reasonably close so the tires will last long enough to drive to an alignment shop?

Fred

How far is the alignment shop?  :icon_smile_big:

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

lol well last time i drove maybe 4 miles and it chewed the crap outta my tires :icon_smile_angry:  the place i would like to go will do it for 65 bucks and is about 15 miles away. the closest place wants 100 and is maybe 8-10 miles away.

Fred

WOW! that really is bad news.  Sounds to me like it needs to be trailered there. It's a lot cheaper than a set of new tyres.

If all you did was change tierods, measure the distance between your tires on the front.  They should be about the same.
What you're doing is setting the toe in.  You shouldn't be eating tires up just going for a short drive.  Are you sure your tires aren't rubbing?

Brightyellow69rtse

i did measure them thats the weird part. the tires arent rubbing on anything. i might just spin em out to make them longer as i believe that would kick the bottom of the tire out. that way its not riding on the edges.

Have you made any adjustments to the upper control arms.  They have cam bolts on them.

That sounds like a camber issue, not a toe problem. Combined with you worn outter edges mentioned originally, you might need to adjust the upper arm eccentrics to make the tire have a more vertical orientation. If you changed the ride height at all, this would change the camber.

all i did was change the tie rods to the c body ones.

toe in will make the outer edges wear.. set the toe to zero and drive it to your alignment shop

the car should be comming off the jackstands tomorrow night. so hopefully i can get it pretty decent.

I have not used an alignmenht shop in years , if they set to original specs the car will steer horribly as they never had radial tires . you want o max the caster , front bolt all the way out & the rear all the way in , then use a level across the rim you want about 1/2* of camber , & 1 /16 " of toe in
