Stripe or no stripe?

We are in the finishing stages of restoring our 1968 Charger.  It is a 383, 4-BBL, 4-speed (1 of 259).  Just got it back from having the vinyl top and new headliner put on.  It has been restored back to original build sheet specs except the rims and tires we want to put on it.  We are planning to put on 15" Bassetts.
http://bassettwheel.com/dhole_asphalt.html
Would like to put on yellow raised lettering Goodyear tires but I don't think they offer them anymore in a size that would fit the rims.  Will probably have to settle for BF Goodrich white raised letters.
I know it is a XP model with the 383 - not an R/T - but I think the bumblebee stripe (black) would really set it off.
What do you all think?

Nice to see you restored it back to broadcast sheet specs.  Our Chargers are big enough as it is.  The stripe sorta helps break it up.

Whatever tire you get, you can always use a yellow sharpie on the lettering.  Just make sure the letters have been bleached or whatever ahead of time eliminating all dirt.

I think it will look great either way...but as far as the typical onlooker, a stripe will definitly set it apart from other vintage cars. Its just an iconic symbol of Mopar. You rarely see muscle cars outside of Mopar with a stripe. People see that stripe and they immediatly associate it with rare vintage muscle car. I think stripe. Do the decal...that way you can take it off if you decide otherwise.

F8-4life

No stripe... maybe if it was a 318 auto or something common. But being a 4 speed base model charger it is quite unique already. A strip just means a wannabe R/T.

64dartgt

I vote for the stripe.  If you like the stripe, go for it.  No need to put RT badges on it either.  I plan to put white 71 RT stripes on my 73.

Equally good either way. When it comes to beauty, chargers look so much better than anything on the road, it doesn't matter which model it is or what colour or whether it has stripes or not. The "clean look" is highly regarded by many and the charger has the lines to back it up. The colour of your car supports this as well. That said, when it comes to the "muscle car" image, the more scoops, stripes and emblems the better. I think you need to look at what image you want the car to project over the long term.
My 1969 Charger. RIP......Rest in pieces.

Oh yes,it's got to have stripes.

Brass

I keep going around and around with myself on that question too.  Not sure...  but for now, I tend to prefer stripes with a vinyl top – otherwise no stripe.

bakerhillpins

I personally like the stripes. For me the 68 stripe is my favorite. If I could order a car it would be a Blue car with white stripes and no vinyl top. Now that being said I own a stripe delete vinyl top car.

Wheels are 15x8 in back and 15x7 in the front, Cragar brand from Summit. I'm out of town right now, and do not remember the tire size (the rears are wider than the fronts). When I get back next weekend, I'll let you know the tire sizes.
