Whats the best four speed to use

I wanted to know as i look into the idea again of putting a manual transmission into my charger.   The engine is a 68 440 bored 30 over with edlebrck head etc etc should put out in the low 500's for power.  What do i neeed for the best street performance and also an occasion spirited drive down the quarter mile? 

As far as the converision i listed that question last year and now have a great list of parts to get but need to know the best 4 speed to locate

like years, gears ranges spline etc

Any of the 833s will take what you want to do , the gear ranges are mostly similar with 2.6 1st gear & 1:1 4th gear . the 18 spline are slightly tougher but always more expensive to buy .  The exceptions to this are the 833 OD with 3 rd being 1:1 & 4th is .71 , all of the OD version are 23 spline but allow the use of lower rear gears & still be able to run on the highway easily .
Passon has 2 new offerings , a 18 spline OD 4 spd either in a ne case or you can fit the gearset to your case & a new 5 spd OD

Um...No...See most people don't reallize The Ford Top loader was offered in two flavors like the 833. A "Big Block" and a "Small Block" version. The later being the weaker mainshaft that we'd snap like a twig on the Mustang when on Slicks. Bout the only Ford I know of that Ronnie Sox drove would be the 1964 Mercury Comet and after 1965, Sox and Martin were Chrysler.

I could swear I read an article somewhere stating that he used ford Toploaders in his cars...         not saying you're wrong or that I'm right - just saying I remember reading that somewhere...    I'll look for the article.
