Regret. It can be more expensive that overpaying or missing out, altogether...  :brickwall:

What Charger(s) have you passed on, only to think about for months, or even for years  :popcrn:

We've talked about dream Chargers and ones that people have - but which one do you wish you hadn't passed by?

a 70 superbird in the eighties for 1500  what i really missed out on was 3 pickup loads of 440 426 392 413 383 engine parts a friend had to clear out his rental shed  he scrapped them  then told me  about a  week later :brickwall:  [right place wrong time]

I'm only 27 so all of the deals I'm posting are within about the last 10 years.

1970 Charger R/T S.E. 440 Plum Crazy white interior car when I was in high school about 10-12 years ago I saw it in the local ads for $3,500, drivable car with a 400 in it, and that price was not a typo, but my parents wouldn't loan me any money. Funny thing was, it didn't even sell 'till a couple years ago and he got a lot more money out of it.

1971 Charger 440 convertible, complete car with a 440 in it, also about 10-12 years ago. This one a guy wanted $1,000 for. The removal of the top didn't look amateur, and I thought it would have been a cool car. White with a blue interior.

1966 Charger 383 4bbl auto car blue on blue. This one a friend told me about maybe 5-6 years ago in Oregon. It was stuck in the mud and had been off the road for 20 some years but looked complete. I offered the lady $900 for it and she agreed. While I arranged to go 300 miles to get it, she informed me that her family wanted the car and she sold it to a relative because family comes first. I saw the car later in the same condition on craigslist for $8,000.

1970 Challenger R/T 440+6. I still have the wheel-deals ad on this one. Also about 10-12 years ago. The guy had a running driving complete original 1970 440+6 Challenger R/T and only wanted $12,000 for it. It looked show quality in the picture. Of course, as I was again only 17 I didn't have that kind of cash and my parents wouldn't lend me the money.

I'm sure there are a few others I'm forgetting.

Guess I should add the '68 Charger R/T 440 AA1 buffed silver outside, black interior, black top, factory red tail stripes. This was maybe 7-8 years ago. The car was rough but had a 440 and was driveable, almost complete. No grille, no hood. I talked to the owner and tried to get a price out of him but he said "I know what these things are worth". He also had a Challenger. So I didn't get a price out of him and passed on the car thinking he wanted too much for it, and told a friend about it, who negotiated it for $2,200. Cheap!!

Darkman

a 1968 Charger from Western Mass. It was solid and straight. Needed a new trunk floor which it came with, had air con and a centre console. Engine had a slight issue but still a driver. Passed it up for a "cheaper" one (the one I have now) that needs a whole lot more body work and doesn't have the centre console I was after

I do regret it a little, but at least I have the opportunity to make this current 68 into my dream car
Make it idiot proof, and somebody will make a better idiot!

Around 1980, A B5 blue 440 4sp 1970 Charger. They were asking $1,200. I know I could have talked him down some. My Dad talked me out of it. Heck, I would have killed my self with it anyhow. Back then WFO was the norm.

An older lady near my house had a 1969 Charger 383 Auto. Great condition, no rust. It did need a third repaint as the second one was showing some issues. She wanted 12k. I didn't have the money for it back in 2002. I saw her driving it a month later hauling ass just like she said she liked to do. She also talked about racing people in the car back in the 70's.

As I recall it was in the Dakota's or Wisconsin at the time, the 17 sounds like the asking price, buying price was less +/-14, I think it was advertised in Hemmings, maybe MCG and likely the same one, a repaint car but quite nice mostly original car as I recall.  It was red with black stuff 440 auto, do not recall if it was matching numbers or not.  Come to think of it, can't remember any other red RT sunroof 69s other than that car (that I have noticed).  No good excuss on this no buy, I think in my youth I was chasing a real 4spd RT over this one at the time, ended up buying my B5 RT not to long after that (can't buy them all)

CDN72SE

Back in the mid 80's 1972 Rallye Charger, only had faded paint and needed two new tires, $300CDN. I was young, broke and dad said NO.

In 1997, I could have bought a 1970 Charger RT/SE, it had the #'s matching 440 and 727 (with receipts proving they had been rebuilt), had a fresh EV2 paint job. Basically all it needed was new interior and wheels/tires. I could have bought it for $3500, but waited around to 'think about it'. Of course when I went back to buy it.....it was gone.
I still kick myself in the ass about that one.

Kern Dog

Back in 1999 before I got serious about buying one, I heard about a guy with a '68 car with a 383. He had it stored at a friends place and the friend was tired of the guy freeloading storage space for so long. Some other guy had an $800 deposit and still owed $1200. The deposit had been put on the car over a year before I found out about the car. My contact told me that the car ran and drove and had a straight body, but the interior was trashed. I tried to buy the car for the total cash amount, but the owner stuck to the deal with his buddy. I never even saw the car. I was ready to buy the car sight UNseen.

Magnumcharger

Back in the mid 1990's a fellow got posted to the military Base I was working at. He was driving what looked to be a ratty 1969 Charger, B5 blue with a black vinyl top.
It was sitting pretty low in the back, and it had bare black steel wheels. Also, there were rust spots, (no perforations) all over the car which were covered in axle grease!
As I later learned, that was the original paint which was basically falling off in large chunks, and the grease was supposedly put on to keep the rust to a minimum.
Turned out he was a Vehicle Tech (Army Mechanic), so he was obsessed with maintaining the car!

One day, "for sale" signs appeared on the rear quarter windows, so I stopped by the owners' house for a look-see.

As it turned out, he was the original owner, and the Charger was an SE, 383 four-barrel engine with a FOUR SPEED!
So, it had the leather seats, woodgrain dash, speed control, power windows, light group and practically every option you could get on a '69 Charger except air conditioning.
The engine was interesting: it had three Stromberg carbs on a vintage Offy intake manifold, with mechanical linkage. It also had 3:55 gears in a Sure-grip Diff.
His asking price was $2000, and he was open to offers!

The original wheelcovers were in his garage, in mint condition, taken off immediately after the car was bought new.
I took the car for a spin and it performed unbelievably well! At least as good as or better than any 440 Sixpack I've driven.

Here's the best part: the VIN ended with 069383. What a car!

Did I even have any money to offer the guy? Not a bit. :-(
Some dumb young Army guy bought it and drove it into the ground...

:o Cool.  What state was that F6RTSE in?  Curious, working on a personal unofficial theory that a higher percentage of F6 Charger landed in west coast or NW.
