Your concern is understandable but what the registries do is help us to know the cars better.  It ultimately provides a greater database to how these cars were assembled and they can also be of some assistance in preventing fraudulent cars being created or to a degree helping with values or theft recovery.  Re-uniting numbers matching components from time to time has also happened through registries.
The 70 registry would be more than happy to log the information on the tag you have.

I'm with everyone else on this.. need a registry.. theres a 70's Hamtramck registry that has a ton of info(if you have a 70).. I'd like the same for 68's... I'd like to see the cars made from the same day or the next/last digit of VIN.. I think it would be interesting and informative.. Plus all of the resources in one place, for all of us information junkies..

Alaskan_TA

The website for the 1970 Hamtramck & LA Registries does have a ton of info - for a whole lot more than 1970 model year cars.  ;)

The registries also help with reconstructing the past. Since Mopar lost many records, the registries can semi-accurately predict the breakdown of options and cars sold. They also help identify when particular changes may have taken effect. Even if you personally don't see any value, it can certainly help the hobby as a whole. Lastly, they help identify bogus cars or cars with a shady history. If you were buying one it would be nice to know if it had any secrets before you forked over a pile of cash.

In a nutshell exactly...

If you need database assistance, I would be glad to help. Dont know much about the Website development part of the world at this point, but develop and program in Microsoft Access and SQL Server for a living.

Really???  :scratchchin:  ;)

My whole database is in an Excel file....while easy to use & navigate I always wondered if there was anything "better/easier" to use....
Uh, yeah! Well, better for sure but maybe not easier unless you know what you're doing. I am a DB by trade as well (although these days I spend a lot of time on data mining and "business intelligence"). The 68 and Daytona registries are going to be based on the web so Access or Excel would be a poor choice. Since the Daytona data format closely resembles the 1969 and 1970 formats I'll be able to go over that with you and the other Chris G (assuming Gene is ok with it).

Troy

By the way, the 1966-67 Charger Registry is also in excel with a tab/sheet for each of the two years (and a few other tabs for statistics), but common column formatting for each of the two years.

I then wrote a custom C# application to read in the excel file for personal display of the data linking the vehicle's information and photos and it tells me what has a fender tag/certicard/etc and what doesn't, etc. The application also spits out a .csv file of certain columns which I feed to an online SQL database. You can get by exporting excel to .csv without the custom application. I never wanted to put the entire database online (like full vins and personal information), so excel is fine for me. The online database is cool because it makes the data available and filterable with .php for the website.

The only thing I would have changed from the beginning would be to have a third tab/sheet for owner information because the same person might own four or five vehicles and if they change something like an email address, it would be easier to change it in one spot (in that third sheet on one row) rather than updating and finding four or five rows (one for each vehicle). Then you just reference/link the owner to each vehicle by an OwnerID column instead of repeating the information multiple times. Normalization.
"This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold..." -- Numbers 7:84 KJV

Troy

Heehee, yes, normalization is your friend. Somehow I still cannot manage to drill that into programmer's heads! :eyes:

Along the same lines, if a car passes from one known owner to another known owner it's very simple to track if you have the database set up correctly.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Resurrecting this one...

I've got 2 to add, including my most recent purchase of a /6 '68 Charger.
