It's a bowl vent. Where is gets plumbed to depends on the application. Probably goes to the breather cap PCV system.

that is what I was thinking, but when I got the carb I had no air cleaner housing or hose plumbed to it to remember right off.  thanks 471!

Probably runs into a nipple on the breather cap; some of the early 70's stuff had multiple nipples on the breathers.  ;)

I've seen a few of those....but it's been awhile, lol. :P

Ps. I have an old Holley 650dp with the same style vent on the front bowl. I remember running the list # and it was an oem 70-72 Chevy 350-370hp "factory" carb.

Can't help you on a 72' But,,, on my 87' 150 PU, (if my eye are not deceiving me), that is a bowl vent and it goes to the vapor recovery tank. It sure looks the same..

Maybe it's a CALIFORNIA THING..

In '72 and later the bowl vent hose goes to the charcoal cannister, on '70 and '71 it goes to the multi-nipple valve cover breather.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
