I was surprised to hear he flew off to another team. It says a lot about a person that stays with the same team over a career...Pujols could have been bigger than Musial in St. Louis had he played out his career there. Then front office work, ambassador-at-large, or perhaps a managing gig.

I can understand him wanting to go with an American League team, especially when his legs go...R.I.P. Al.

But it is not millions...only about $150,000 per game, or $40,000 per at bat, or $5,000 per pitch. 

You can't really blame him, but only despise him.    My sympathies go out to the Cardinal fans.

No, but Pujols probably has at least 5 years at 1st base, with the occasional day off for rest but would still DH on those days. The Angels probable think his upside as one of the best hitters of his generation will propel them into the Series. The fact that he will play first base now, and is a more than decent fielder, gets him that monster contract. And I think if La Russa was still managing he would have stayed in Missouri.

i agree with you entirely, the thing with this is he kept saying it has nothing to do with the money,i just want a long contract so i know i will retire here. they gave him that contract and he turned it down for the money. and as dan said, with st. louis it would run for a lifetime after the playing ended. what do you need when you will already have 200 mil and just ended a contract that paid over 100 mil.

That's what we all expected to happen, and he would have ruled St. Louis.  Plus, when the skill level declined (and sooner or later it will), he'd have been given a pass based on what he did for the team & area previously. 

In my small circle of friends, we've just decided it was all about the Benjamins for him.  If that's the case, I'd rather not spend time dwelling on his decision.

I respectfully disagree, at least as far as I'm concerned.  As for the first part of your reply, no one I know is saying they didn't want Albert.  He's a great player, and likely headed for the HoF.  We also didn't consider it idiocy for the Cards' ownership to offer him what they did, and in fact, I'm glad that they made more than a half-hearted attempt to retain his services.  THAT would have been disappointing.  The Cardinals are not a better team without him, and that was reflected in the offer they made.

As it is, Albert made his priorities very clear... salary rules for him.  That's fine.  It's his life, his choice to make - and he made it.  As for the statement that "Albert just wasn't that into you" - that's true in the sense that he's not into the Angels or anyone else for that matter.  He's "into" the highest bidder for his services.  If any team or owner has the resources to offer more than another, for a player with those priorities the decision will be the same every time.

There may be Cards fans whose distaste is expressed in exactly the way that you've outlined, Vainglory.  I wouldn't argue that.  However, don't assume that everyone here is stomping out a vat full of sour grapes.
