I hope they do it justice but I think I see two door handles meaning a 4 door  :brickwall:

QuoteCan the Demon be far behind?

Dodge has announced that it will be reviving the Dart with an all-new car to be unveiled at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in January, making it the latest throwback nameplate to join the company's stable, along with the Charger and Challenger.

Read: Return of the Ford Bronco

The automaker today released two teaser images of the compact sedan, which will serve as the replacement for the Caliber hatchback. It is the first Dodge to be fully developed through the Chrysler-Fiat alliance.

Based on the existing front-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo Giulietta, which is not sold in the United States, the Dart's styling apes that of the larger Dodge Charger, featuring the brand's signature crosshair grille, "racetrack"-style rear LED lighting and dual exhaust pipes.

The Dart will be available with three different four-cylinder engines - a 1.4-liter turbo, 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter - and three transmissions. Details have not yet been revealed, but the car depicted in the photos is show wearing an R/T badge, indicating that it is a high-performance variant of the model.

The automaker's consumer website says that interior photos of the Dart will be posted on Dec. 13th. Pricing information is yet to come, but the car will be produced at the Chrysler plant in Belvidere, Ill., alongside the Jeep Patriot and Compass.

Nothing wrong with trying the Dart name again.  As for the Demon nameplate, I could see the ricer crowd really embracing a car with that badging.

2013 Dodge Dart Plan:

1) Glorify the Avenger
2) Re-use the new Charger tail light for it's recent success
3) Slap the "Dart" badge on it and watch it sell

3 different 4 bangers, 1.4ltr., 2.0ltr. & 2.4ltr. no thanks, maybe the "Demon" if they Build it, will be a performance base package,  no 4 banger front wheel drives for me...

Think about it, though. The MAJORITY of A-bodies were slant 6 bread-n-butter grocery getters. They were marketed with economy in mind. The performance segment was a small one. I'm sure with the '13, a turbo'd 4 banger is in the works somewhere.
Could be LOTS worse. Before clicking the link, my first hunch was it's gonna be either electric or hybrid (think: Prius). That would be in true vain of what the original was intended for. I was relieved to see it was going to have somewhat of a muscular style. At least, the grille design looks like a great improvement!!

a 1.4-liter turbo is the only turbo motor that dodge is so far planning on.

It's the replacement for the Caliber so you can expect it to be marketed similarly.

I like the idea of a FWD turbo. I love my 2.2 turbo. It woops 5.0's all day long and gets 28 mpg.

Aren't you going to complain about the conservative slant in the Dodge Dart article by Fox?

It's an Italian designed based on the Alfa Romeo's Giulietta platform. I hope they make versions of everything from a high miler little four to a fire breathing SRT version. It looks like it will have agressive styling. It's Italian like me, should have good looks  ;)

"Old name aside, the new Dodge Dart will reside atop a Fiat platform, adapted from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, but lengthened and widened for segment-leading interior roominess. The 2013 Dodge Dart replaces the Dodge Caliber."

my 92 2.2 DOHC Daytona Iroc R/T came stock with 224 hp 217 tq and was built to beat 92 5.0's. They run mid 14's stock and with just add ons with a stock long block can easily be pushed to do 12's. Mine has a stock long block with just a 3" mandrel bent exhaust a rechipped ecm with the boost raised from 11 psi to 15 psi the 6300 rpm rev limiter removed (revs to 7000 rpm easy) and +20 injectors. Here are a couple of links. The first is Ralph Scotts site. He owned 1 of the 8 blue 93 R/T's He loved these cars. He passed away about a month ago but before passing asked another lover of these turbo cars to carry on the site. http://www.pbase.com/rmscott/iroc_rts The second is a video of a car a guy named Larry from Tampa built. Larry built it all with a stock long block and put down 500 hp on the dyno. He sold the car a few years ago and the new owner toned it down since it was just too wild on the street. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omboXDK3ysg&feature=related They are a blast to drive and fill my HP cravings between Charger drives and cost a ton less in gas. Good point, all true.  With the general shape I think I see .. .. following fiat little bubble, modern econ boxes etc it will likely flop like the GTO.  Reluctantly admitting here, but I am not a huge fan of the new Chargers either frankly but at least they have some muscle edges and trends to the old Charger coke bottle (sorta).

Got to see this new Dart today. It's sitting at our shop. I dont think it's to bad looking. I like the new Black Super Bee Chargers & Yellow Jacket Challengers. Got a few of those sitting around with the 6.4 Hemi & they are nice. LEON.

TexasStroker

I was excited at first, then disappointed, then pissed off

Now I'm okay with it.  The Caliber never should have been made and didn't deliver like the Neon SRT-4, which was a great package.  We really need the econobox with cheap insurance, high mpg, and a little class to it in order to have that k-car margin that can keep profits up.

I look at this as would I take it over a corolla or civic and the answer is yes.

I still feel like it is a reach putting "Dart" on the car.  I don't see many A-body fans rushing out to buy the car, and I don't see anyone looking for a "new low buck, high mpg" car thinking, cool...it is just like my 67, or frankly even having an image come to wind when they hear "Dodge Dart."  I think a name would have done better, but that is just me.

That said, the Dart had humble beginnings, always had the low-buck, fuel efficient option and wound up legendary due to the Swinger 340, GTS, and of course that primered piece cranked out in 68.

I will give this one a chance...I'd like to see what SRT can do for it and if I had the time and money I'd be the first idiot to rework the whole car just for the sake of having a 392 in it  :icon_smile_big:

It is a shame the corporate history buffs didn't dig another 3 seconds to avoid the R/T label on the Dart, but oh well...it is just a sign of the times.

I have gotten to a point where I don't really relate the new and old cars together.  That can keep me happy about the current state of affairs and less ticked off about tarnishing the past frome time-to-time.

The "old Dart" was a long-tenured jack of all trades and I will be watching to see if this new euro-inspired Dart can live up to the legend.  Would be nice if it could develop into an AWD platform with performance similar to the evo/wrx etc.

They are sure building up the unveiling though...

Very cool you've seen it and the new Yellow Jacket Leon!

Old Dodge Darts were never really sports cars in the eyes of the public, no matter what the factory did with a few of them in small production runs.  I don't see a problem with re-using the name and doing something new with it.  "Charger" and "Challenger" are names to be strictly protected but I don't think "Dart" is in that category.

Darts aren't movie stars, they aren't in video games . . . they are mainly cool to us now because we can cram V8s into them cheaply in the backyard.  By that logic, names like "Maverick" and "Chevette" would be forever off limits to new interpretations too.

The original Darts were made 35-50 years ago.

Imagine if you told 1960s Chrysler that they shouldn't use the name an entry-level 1920s model unless they build a perfect newer clone of it.  They'd laugh at you.

A very well made point Mike.
