will roller rockers   fit under stock 440  valve covers ???   THANKS

maxwellwedge

Depends....I went with some Hughes roller rockers on an engine....they said they would fit no problem. They fit, but when I fired the engine I thought the world was coming to an end. They were hitting the welded baffle in the valve cover... :icon_smile_angry:

I had to hole-saw the areas in the baffle where they were hitting.

I guess checking the fit with whichever the ones you go with is the only way to tell.....unless someone chimes in with their experiences.

It will often depend on factors such as cam lift, rocker ratio, push rod length and the associated adjuster height, rocker design etc...

If you have the heads assembled and set up, then you should be able to take a measurement for clearance.

I am running  prw stainless 1.5 adjustable roller tip rockers with a .525 lift cam  under the factory covers.

Chryco Psycho

I have the PRW rockers with .600 lift under stock 70 covers , no prob

I had Crane Golds under these ones with no problems.
Sorry I thought these were the same as the ones on my 70RR but they are taller in the center but still had baffles in them.  Guess they're from a different year .

From my experience Harland Sharp or Crane Gold will not clear a stock baffled valvecover without modifying the baffles.  :Twocents:

No experience with the PRW's but they do look a little more compact in design and others have said they will fit stock covers....

Those look like a set I used to have in the eighties. They were from Direct Connection and were about an inch taller than factory covers.

I wouldn't look at it as a brand specific issue. Sure one brand could be a little better than another in this application, even though they have ALL been designed to the same spec's to achieve similar geometry. However, it still comes down to the individuals particular setup. After all, just (1) thread up or down on a pushrod adjuster can be the difference between hitting or not hitting... rod length, cam lift, rocker ratio... rocker design, it all comes into play, and no two are going to be exactly alike.  :Twocents:
