........who  ever ordered it........

My guess would be it was used as a "lost leader" or sales promotion "new 68 Charger from as low as x".

maxwellwedge

It would make a neat daily driver and.... I can guarantee you, the true Mopar guys would be standing around looking at this thing at a Mopar show a lot more than a cloned-out 383-2bbl with a Hemi in it car. I know I would.

Not to pick.....but some of these items were options, so they didn't need to be 'deleted'. (Sure Grip, tinted windows, Magnums, etc....)

Pretty much all of them were options. It was a sideways dig at the inaccurate term 'radio delete'. The only way to delete something is if it was standard. Radios were never standard so you couldn't 'delete' them.

  Shades of the A12 forum "discussion"!

It just sounds cool.... "Radio Delete"  But yes, it is an incorrect term.

If I saw a Slant 6 in a classic 68 Charger "muscle car", I would offer a couple of bucks to the owner (goodwill) since all he could afford was Slant 6 in the best 2nd gen Charger ever.!  :Twocents:
IMO if they were so great, why don't more people clone these cars.  :smilielol:

Ghoste

Except that no one is calling a "muscle" car.  Everyone worried about what is under the hood or how it would stand up to a 75 whatever or how badly the ricers would take it in a drifting contest are completely missing the point.  It should be restored and shown and everyone who needs to see a Hemi underhood to get their rocks off can go by it to the next car.  No problem.  But for anyone who apppreciates automotive history and were unaware that such a car could even exist would be able to enjoy it.
Remember the 2nd generation Charger was sold with far more of them containing two barrel family car engines than there were 440's and Hemis.  It was touted as a personal luxury car not a supercar.  That segment was left for RT and Super Bee's.  Yes, the Charger had the racy styling and yes there were lots of print ads with TR eye candy but lined up on the dealer's lots were 318's being sold long before the single RT that might be in the showroom to draw you in.
There is a reason that the 1970 Charger got a new base model with less trim and an even cheaper price instead of making the 383 four barrel the standard engine and raising the base price.
Judgement sometimes is colored by time and the hobbyist interest in the car and thats understandable but the truth is that back in the day the "muscle" Chargers were greatly outsold by their family car attired sisters.

QuoteBetter yet put a supra motor in it and go drifting

100 to 1 the charger will eventually get a v8 and cloned to an r/t
Either way you gotta love the oddity but in the end who cares make it whatever you want it bears no value so good luck to its fate

Hell, I'll go 1,000,000 to 1 that "eventually" it will get a v8 and be cloned into an R/T.

Uh.... when do you determine the pay out?

so is that $1,000,000 to $1 bet on v8 ,rt clone??????????

for the right bet and or donations ,i will buy it and keep it a / 6 but slightly modified. go with early low deck, short rod /6 with a 5 or 6 speed od trans. may be belt drive super charger and header with 3''dual pipes with small baffel or resounator.4 barrel or injected, with 3.55 suregrip ,would give ya some jump at the light.ya sure don't have ta street race every ricer or morron now days.
all above with daytona nose and wing and see how fast a slant can run on road course ,or big speedway.

Seriously? You don't understand the concept of why this car would be cool if it were restored to stock condition?

maxwellwedge

If it was 100% and all there I would buy it in a second and drive it everywhere.

Vainglory, Esq.

I don't buy the whole "losing to a Pinto" thing.  I lose to a lot of crappy cars on the street in my Hemi Charger, because I don't race it on the street.  It's just not smart.  I don't care how much of a punk the guy in the car next to me is.  I'm a big boy.  I don't take the bait.

Nevertheless, there is simply no denying the coolness factor of this thing, if restored to original condition.

Ok ,not on the street, on the track. The point is its a 3800 pound car with a /6 engine. I agree that it should be restored back to original, but i would not put the money or effort into the car and not too many people on this site would buy it and restore it to original.

Same here. I already catch hell for spending the money/time restoring my "undesirable" but rare 383/4spd Charger but I really like the thing. I probably wouldn't spend the time and money on something common and undesirable like a 318/auto but this one is very uncommon.
