i looked over my old pictures and saw that i simply forgot to hook these wires up circled in purple. two of them were the same colors w the same tracers so i just hooked them back up. there was also a thicker red wire coming out of that same hole so i hooked it to the power at the starter relay and then i had the dome light etc.

still no function on the key. so i started looking at my amp gauge. everyting is tight on it but when i took the gauge down one of the wires wasn't connected to anything on the other end. i assume this is most likely my problem. so i started looking for a similar wire. i found a thick red wire coming out of the back of the bulkhead connector going to no where. i thought OK that's it but it made no difference.

sorry for the crappy explanations hopefully I'm at least making progress anyway. maybe my amp gauge is the culprit?

thanks again guys i really appreciate the help  :2thumbs:

Try jumping the two terminals at the relay with a screwdriver and see if the starter turns - Car in Neutral!

i should add i got a new relay. where does the yellow wire connect to?i wanna make sure i got atleast that much right.

maxwellwedge

The yellow wire is the whole key to your ignition switch working.

Better pic - but an automatic....same yellow wire position.

ill be damned lol guess im off to the garage again! good thing i got laid off two weeks ago and got lots of free time lol.

Brightyellow69rtse

there was a crappy little piece of a yellow wire on that exact terminal on my relay. i founf a yellow wire running from the key all the way up to the back of the bulkhead. but i have no yellow wire in the engine bay. any idea whats going on here?

maxwellwedge

Sounds like you are missing the wire from the engine side of the bulkhead.

i just pulled the bulk head out of the hole. that things all messed up :flame:  a bunch of stuff is all mashed up in there and quite a bit of it is melted :flame:

so i might get a new engine harness while im at it. is there a good place to get that stuff other than year one?

maxwellwedge

Year One sells the MH stuff - That is the best stuff. Frank Badalson and others can also get the MH as well.

Here is a link to the other side of the firewall wiring.

Give him a ring, from what i remember the prices were better than year one. Also, you could customize it however you wanted, for example; if you had an MSD ignition with no ballast, you could ask him to make a harness that did not include the connectors for the resistor.
