HAHA, those guys need to get out more often.

Wheeler Dealers, that English show where they do a flip with a car, came to Texas and bought a 70 Charger, 383 4 speed pistol grip car for $23,000, the guy wanted $25 for it, and the dude tried  to talk him down to $20,000 because the power steering was shot, it needed a new shift mechanism and it had a shimmy in the front, i was like soooo, whats the problem????

so they fixed it up and turned it for $20,000, nice car, i would have paid it for that car, but they went to a track first and tried running it a couple of times, a 18 and a 17 second quarter mile, gimme a break.

Just 6T9 CHGR

They paid $23K USD in Texas but sold it for $20k UK (pounds)

Which will make it almost 31k USD...so they made a bit of a profit.....Crackin'! ;)

i don't think they made any profit!import tax was around 780british pounds, shipping 1780 british pounds, plus flights car rental, hotels, mechanical parts!on the show they say they made 1200punds profit but didnt count the flights and costs to be there!plus there are two of them so 600quid is nothing for flying to texas and spend a day fixing the car!imo

It's a good friend of mine here is Palm Desert CA.    The guys from Wheeler Dealer posted that they were looking for a 70 Charger here on DodgeCharger.com about a year ago.   I saw the post and set it up.    In this picture it's on the far right of his collection.  That R/T has A/C, Power Windows, Cruise and six way seat.   It's his driver.

I'm sure there are a few times (including this one) where they take a financial hit for the sake of the show. I'm sure the profit they make (if any) on their cars,  is small potatoes compared to the salary from the show. They do average resto work at best, but it's all about the flip. I like the show though.  :2thumbs:

If you look at their lineup for this season it looks like they bought more than one car stateside and so I figure they made one trip over and did a bunch of shopping all at once.

I think that screams "if you have to ask you can't afford it".   Yea, the dream will have to be kept in check here too.  Glad someone can save them though.

The profits they make do not include labour. They do do average restorations but bear in mind that this show is targeted for the average backyard mechanic showing what basics they can do to prepare a car for sale or just fix up everyday running problems. They quite often make references like "if a shop was to do this it would cost...."

It is a good show and they manage to select cars that have different problems from the previous one

I guess they didnt know about some of the restoration supply houses we are using. As already stated, they could have gotten new parts for what they spent on used. There is a yard here in Phoenix, "Desert Valley Auto Parts" that specializes in very old cars. When I needed a fuel tank in a big hurry for my 72, I called them. They wanted almost as much for old junk as I ended paying for new.

they included the plane tickets in the cost summary, plus only Mike Brewer travelled to USA, Edd had to stay at home and fix the car when it arrived in the UK. They never account for Labour costs.

Whats up with an 18 second quarter mile? A 383 4spd should have done way better than that. Maybe he stopped for tea and crumpets at half track.
