planning on replacing the exhaust system on my son's 73 charger.... 318, 4 barrel holley, edelbrock intake, mild cam, and a set of rusty, leaky headers and exhaust system with unknown mufflers. i have purchased a set of new hooker 1 3/8" headers from a DC board member and i am about to order collectors and mufflers from summit racing.

the existing header/collectors connection really leak bad even after replacing the gaskets... the old header flange is really warped and doubled gaskets still leak.  i have found "header buddies" are these any improvement or should i just buy regular collectors?    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G4771/

next question, should i go with 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" exhaust tubing?

third question, any thoughts on these mufflers? price is a major consideration for me to consider, they are a bunch cheaper than dynomax, borla, etc.http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17717/

thanks for the help, this site has been great help to my son and i

I used Remflex gaskets on heads and collectors, and after ~6000 miles there are no leaks anywhere. This is particularly noteworthy considering that I've had these headers for 30 some years, and they always leaked between the center cylinders and at the collectors with any other gaskets I've had.

on my 74 318.
Sounds great. A lot of compliments.
