Ouch!  Stuck throttle? Leads to wall. Leads to unconscious driver?

He hit the brakes but it didn't look like it helped any.

Glad he's alright.   Some comments that people put on Youtube are unbelievable. :RantExplode:

Clearly stuck throttle, but seems he panicked and never cut the fuel or ignition system. If he was knocked out the car wouldnt have been sitting there, front wheels locked, doing a burnout.

Here's the yellowbullet version, complete with the actual driver's comments.  Lots of posts that don't add to the story, but #88 by the driver pretty much sums it up.

Glad he's going to be OK.

Scary ride when you have alot of horsepower with a narrow tire, good thing hes ok.
68 Charger, slowly in the works, 451 c.i. approx. 535 hp @ the flywheel, so far best time in the 1/4
11.21 @ 119 mph, full exhaust, stock suspension, 4:10s @ 3640 pounds.

MoparManJim

Thank god he is okay, but not to sound rude or anything here, but that clip just goes to show you what happens or can happen when you have to much horse power an at times then what the car can handle. People always wanting to build a car that can go faster an faster or even faster.. = wreck.

FLG

Nothing wrong with the car, bit of a driver error IMO (from reading the thread that was posted and the drivers response in post 88) Throttle got stuck open, he tried his best to un stick it with the toe hook, but was too late and before he could cut the ignition he slammed the wall. I think the first thing he should have done is kill the ignition, but in that situation your in a panic.

WOW that was tough to watch . . .  :eek2:

Lost the race but definitely won the Burnout comp.

myk

I don't think we can criticize the people working the track for not reacting fast enough.  With an out-of-control car that's on fire, bouncing between the walls and a powerful engine that is going full throttle with no end in sight I don't think it'd be wise to go running there..

No offense, but with that kind of thinking we never would've put a man on the moon.  We can live our lives under our bed sheets where it's nice and safe or we can dare to live faster, harder, and try to accomplish things before our short lives are ended...

Just saw a clip on the news last night showing a woman in an SUV who's throttle was stuck for 40 miles.
You've probably all seen it on your news service too.
She was talking with the police as she drove saying how scared she was and there was at least 1 police cruiser following her.
Makes you wonder why they didn't tell her to knock the car into neutral or kill the ignition.
Gotta love a '69

Actually the operator did ask/tell her to put the car into neutral. The woman said she tried but it didn't work. Not sure if she meant she couldn't get it into neutral or that it made no difference in neutral.
That was some scary stuff though, especially amazing was that she didn't lose control when she hit the median strip at that speed.

Tomorrow is promised to no one.......drive your Charger today.

Mike DC

Don't worry guys.  I'm sure the computer-dependent, drive-by-wire design of the vehicle had absolutely nothing to do with causing the incident.  The woman probably just didn't notice her shoe was stuck on the gas pedal and she wasn't fully pushing the shifter button or something.

:eyes:

Cooter

See, News reports here state that she "Pulled up on Gas pedal" to end the chaos. Hmmmm, If it were newer enough for Drive by wire, this is prolly one helluva good way to get out of a speeding ticket.

I thought that was why Toy entered Nascar , the throttle sticks wide open the driver cannot lift so therefore they should win some races .... No  :shruggy:???
